I always preferred Rod Evans in Captain Beyond and think his voice was a better fit for that band. Not a great vocalist, but a good one.

Some bands have debut/early albums that in no way have their signature sound locked in yet.
Scorpions-Lonesome Crow and Doobie Brothers-S/T always spring to my mind.
Sometimes those albums are for ardent collectors only.
Love Rod Evans in 'Captain Beyond'.....still play that at least once a month....havent played a DP lp for quite a while. I find their music ok most of the time except for Child In Time , Fools, and a few other oddball things where they go beyond just hard rock and those are interesting.
