What can I say about Deep Purple, one of the greatest rock bands in history. When I was a little kid in the mid 70's I heard all the hits and my sister had "Live In Europe". It always confused me just who their singer was, from "Hush" to "Smoke On The Water" to the tandem vocals of Coverdale and Hughes, as a little kid I thought they had like 5 vocalists!
A few years ago I got back into them again big time and a few months ago I hit the motherload of Deep Purple vinyl: including studio, live, and compilations I bought about 18 LP's from 1968 to 1976 and "Perfect Strangers".

^^One of the all time greats, I have him rated along with Moon, Bonham, Bruford, Palmer and all the other great drummers of his era.
One of the bands I truly regret not seeing live, and nice to know a couple of years ago they had a phenomenally successful world tour, and the audience wasn't just people my age but younger people as well.

Ian has always been one of my favorite drummers and as LG said, his talent, particularally in that time period, really does show. Happy birthday to the only original member of Deep Purple still with the band.
I think a lot of people probably undersell Deep Purple but really...you can't sell a hundred million albums (or whatever it is they've sold), have a 40+ year career (albeit with many lineup changes), and still continue to be one of the hardest touring bands in the world just on the back of "Smoke On The Water".

I saw them in 1985 at the Long Beach Arena for the "Perfect Strangers" tour. It was a great show. Me and my friend were in the area where the speakers were. Great view of the stage. Me ears were ringing for days...

^^ I know how does it feel, I had that after Wolfmother gig. I was right in front of speakers.
I still hope for a new album by the way. Deep Purple with orchestra is becoming boring really.
