David Bowie and Bon Jovi are currently embroiled in a huge fight — but it’s nothing personal. In a scene that seems ripped from the mid-’80s, the two classic rock heavyweights are duking it out for the No. 1 position in next week’s Billboard 200 chart.

According to Billboard, industry sources are predicting that Bowie’s new album ‘The Next Day‘ — released on Tuesday (March 12) — will sell somewhere in the neighborhood of 90,000 units in its opening week, putting it on track to capture the top spot. It’s Bowie’s first effort in ten years, since ‘Reality’ in 2003, and even if it doesn’t hit No. 1, it’s on track to become his Top 10 album since ‘Let’s Dance’ all the way back in 1984. If the album does hit the top spot, it will (surprisingly) be the first No. 1 album of the chameleon-like performer’s long career.

Bon Jovi’s new album ‘What About Now‘ also bowed Tuesday, and Billboard reports it is also on its way to moving around 90,000 units, putting it in a dead heat with Bowie’s new disc. If it edges out Bowie’s, it will be the Jersey-based rock/AC/country/pop group’s fifth career chart-topper. The group’s past No. 1 albums include ‘Slippery When Wet’ in 1986, ‘New Jersey’ in 1988, ‘Lost Highway’ in 2007, and ‘The Circle’ in 2009.

Not sure I'm going to pick up either one, but nice to see them having success nonetheless.

I would prefer Bowie snag this. It's a landmark for him whereas it's just another notch on Bon Jovi's belt. Besides, I think David's album is stellar and while I haven't listened to the new Bon Jovi record if it's anything like the country rock albums of their last few ventures I think I'll pass.

I am with Cosmic, I would like to see Bowie capture the limelight. I haven't heard either album yet, so I cant make comment on them. But I feel Bowie deserves the spot.

Got both albums (downloads anyway)...both are brilliant in their own way, though I'd go with Bowie 100% as he's sort of reinvented himself yet again musically, and it's just a stunningly inventive and interesting album that I can't stop playing, whereas the Bon Jovi is good, but it's basically the same formula they have had for 30 years. In fact Bowie's may even be the best comeback-album in history, it's faultless.
