I know a few of us have commented on old bands that are half dead or with others playing the music...which bands need to hang it up?

Any band with less than two original members left.

I do have certain standards and find it hard to be entertained by a great many artists who had success thirty or forty or more years ago. I’m definitely the wrong person to ask.
AC/DC easily also comes to mind.

The lands of Marshall Stack.
...lots need to call it a day- musicians as individuals tend to keep their credibility, in particular solo artists in many cases.Georgie Fame,Van Morrison, Kenney Jones,Steve Winwood...remain rather cool.So many have been pampered since the 1960s and have totally lost, and forgotten where their influences came from.
Howlin' Wolf, Bo Diddley, BB King...etc..never really over reached and remained grounded and credible...and still creative and relevant.
Ron Wood is wasted with the Stones...and has a real following in his own right.Even pops up impromptu in pubs!
I saw Lee Hazelwood in Dublin,in his later years-jeez was he just cool.Herbie Hancock last year was not struggling, greedy in ticket prices and generous in time.
In retrospect I feel blessed that I for years attended Reading, Knebworth, Cropready, and Monsters of Rock...as I saw topline rock in it's prime. Jagger croaking in shitty scales set by Chuck Leavell ain't Rock 'N' Roll!

Rolling Stones. Not that they're bad. They just deserve a break!

If they're happy keeping the music alive and fans show up to their shows.

Good for them. Keep going.

Yeah, I've come around to this line of thinking. I totally get it.

But this is more how I really feel though, especially in terms of my own personal commitment.

I still listen to classic rock from many of the old bands ,but I'm not going to pay over $200 for a ticket
to see the Stones for instance but if people want to ...then go for it.
