PLEASE NOTE: This thread is written about a controversial Australian comedian and musician by the name of Andrew Hansen. It is to celebrate his musical career, and NOT an excuse to start a political debate, despite the political nature of some of his songs. This is a thread to appreciate him as a musician. So, play nice :D Thankyou for your co-operation

Also, if you are easily offended by controversial material, my advice would be to vacate this thread before you read any further.

Andrew Hansen is a comedian and musician from New South Wales, in Australia, famous for being a member of the controversial comedy team, The Chaser (non-Australians may have heard of these guys when they infiltrated APEC Security and arrived outside a Sydney hotel housing President Bush with one of the members dressed as Osama bin Laden, making international headlines).

Andrew Hansen began his musical career as a member of independent Sydney band, The Fantastic Leslie. The band began as a serious project, but the members soon realized they got more notice when they played humorous songs, mostly songs popularized by Jim Henson's Muppets.

The Fantastic Leslie soon went their own way, and many members found success - drummer Tom Gleeson went on to become a well-known comedian in Australia, and bassist Cameron Bruce worked as a session musician for Paul Kelly, among others.

Hansen, with a new appreciation for the compatibility of music and comedy, pursued a career in comedy, being signed to a comedy team called The Chaser, where he joined them for their new TV show, a satirical look at news reporting, CNNNN.

This is his first use of music to add to a Chaser skit:

Andrew, and the rest of the Chaser team, hit a commercial jackpot for their next TV show, entitled The Chaser's War on Everything. Andrew's songs began to be noticed and getting air-time on the show.

Here are some of the best songs from "The War":

Scottish Stand-Up Comedian (Taking the mickey out of Billy Connolly)

The Keith Urban Song (I'll Be Your New Tom Cruise)

Hill$ong

I'm A Prolix Songwriter (And I Have A Very Hard Time, Fitting an Extraordinary and Unnecessary Large Number of Syllables into the Highly Limited Confines of a Line)

I Am Thesaurus (parody of The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus")

(These Are Just Some Of) My Least Favourite Things

Plus plenty more.

The Chaser are no secret to to controversy, having offended various sectors of society on an almost weekly basis. But three of their controversies were particularly notable. One was the aforementioned breach of a high security area dressed as Bin Laden. Another was a skit parodying the charity "Make A Wish Foundation" that was widely regarded to have crossed a line. The third was a song which Hansen co-wrote and performed. Called the Eulogy Song, it was intended to highlight the way we brush away the bad side of celebrities after they died, using many popular figures such as Steve Irwin, John Lennon, Sir Don Bradman and Kerry Packer, to name a few, as examples:

:uc: :uc: (profanity and some insulting terms in final refrain, stop film at 2:50 if you wish to avoid this. Also, do not watch if easily insulted.)

I may post more, less controversial Chaser songs later, but just a brief word on Hansen's latest project before I finish this OP.

Recently, Hansen, along with fellow Chaser member Chris Taylor, have released a five-part radio series entitled "The Blow Parade". Billed as a cross between the Goon Show and Spinal Tap, the Blow Parade featured many characters voiced by Hansen and Taylor, and had an episode chronicling the history of 5 fictional bands:

- Prog rock band Lake Deuteronomy
- Folk singer with a remarkably nasal voice, Egg Zagar
- Punk band The Fatcocks
- Alternative Arena Rock band, with a political agenda, Me Me Me
- Funk band, Funkalicious

There's very few recordings on YouTube from this series, but I found one, so here's Funkalicious (i.e. Hansen) performing "The Algebra Song" to finish up my post.

In light on Andrew, along with the other members of the Chaser making their return to Aussie TV with the election "coverage" show Yes We Canberra, I thought I'd post one of Hansen's songs from their last Election show.

This is a tribute to the former Prime Minister of 11 years, John Howard, shortly after he was voted out. It's entitled He Did It His Way.

NEW SONG

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

In the Australian 2010 Federal Election, the two contestants are Julia Gillard, current Prime Minister and first female Prime Minister of Australia, contesting her first election (she overthrew former Labor leader Kevin Rudd a month or so ago), against Tony Abbott, an iron man with a noted aggression problem, who has come out for the idea of no sex before marriage, and is known as much for his budgie smugglers as he is his policies. As a consequence, the polls have shown that the majority of females are supporting Gillard.

So, Andrew Hansen and his Chaser colleagues decided to "enlist the help" of one figure bound to swing the female opinion in Abbott's favour:

Well, Andrew Hansen is BACK!

Despite the Chaser team, including Hansen, being banned from broadcasting their Royal Wedding Special due to a clause in the BBC footage agreement, Andrew Hansen had already pre-recorded a parody song for Kate Middleton. And who better to parody for a Royal occasion than Sir Elton John

WARNING: Contains jokes about Princess Diana
