That was just a start. Now on the list there are 36 guitar players and is going on.

I don't want to sound offensive but Rolling Stone magazine is a joke. They are only concerned with artists they feel make a 'positive' cultural impact (are on the side of the political spectrum they support). I don't even know of a time they have been respected as a source for actual music. Look at some of their reviews of artists over the years and you'll see what I mean.
They only really care about non conformity in a musician. This trait doesn't automatically make one a better artist and never has.

I totally agree . Rolling Stone magazine and it's founder Jann Wenner wouldn't know it's ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to rock and roll. A good example of this is Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for which he is also a founder. There is a lot of controversy surrounding the RRHOF and there have even been calls to boycott his magazine

I agree with all of you, I made this list as an open suggestion list so it will be more complete.
I used Rolling stones as starter, I'm sorry if some names hurt your feelings , this wasn't my intention.
