I always thought Steve Morse was a great guitarist in the Steve Morse Band and the Dixie Dregs, and to a lesser extent the two Kansas albums he played on.
His work with DP was OK, but nothing spectacular. The last DP album =1 with Simon McBride was a lot more retro sounding, but very few...
WT has varied their style more than, say, Epica, who have always done pure symphonic metal. WT has been classified as gothic & symphonic metal, but the symphonic aspect was never as strong as Epica or early NW.
I feel like I benefitted from the fact I had no idea at the time what bands these guys were previously in.
I was hooked by the singles and it's still my favorite Asia album, with Alpha at #2.
I went on to own all the other albums at one time or another, including the Aurora EP on vinyl which I...
There seem to be some very liberal definitions of both "prog" and "metal". King Crimson, Yes and Rush are not metal (Rush is hard rock). Nightwish is symphonic metal, but I never thought of them as prog, though they do have "more complex arrangements" in their music.
I've given Black Mamba a few listens. It really does have an early Alice Cooper Band vibe, but is a bit slow developing and the "ya ya" chorus is a bit annoying.
A good song, but not a great one. Hoping for better from the rest of the album.
A proper, super smooth Michael McDonald track with great back-up vox.
If this is their swan song, it's gonna be an epic one.
Doobie Brothers - Learn To Let Go
A newer new track from Aspira. These songs are reminding me more and more of Requiem for the Indifferent in that it's a fair departure from their recent sound.
Epica - T.I.M.E.
Another new track from Ànv. this is shaping up to be one of their best albums since Origins, not that they've ever done a bad album.
This track has a different vibe too. Nice that they're always evolving without losing anything.
Eluveitie - Awen
Cool beans. I'm glad Ronnie finally got a shot to be on recorded material. He was in Shooting Star for 4+ years but they never made an album in that time.
A live version of Sirens was released yesterday. Yes, it can get even more epic(a).
Epica - Sirens: Of Blood and Water (feat. Charlotte Wessels & Myrkur)
Also a track from the new album Aspira.
Epica - Cross The Divide
This one is a little different. It's an all Cristina track. A more macabre video, and that's saying a lot.
Lacuna Coil - I Wish You Were D3ad
ETA: Like may have said in the comments section for the YT video, this track really has a great old-school LC sound. Comalies or Karmacode era for...
