    Covers, uncovers, remakes, etc.

The Montrose arrangement of Connection is completely different to that of the Rolling Stones. It is one of Sammy Hagar's best performances and Ronnie's solo is great as always. Paper Money is an underrated album:

Which Mick Jagger Song Are You?

It takes a lot more than that to be an idiot around here. In any case you were using your imagination and reasoning, which their software cannot. Usually those things have a maximum of about four songs. Mine came up as You Can't Always Get What You Want, but the basis seems a bit random.

What Rock Songs Should Have Been Radio Hits?

Don't forget we have never had rock radio, which I assume is taken for granted in the US. If my memory serves me correctly, Foreigner had two hit singles and Journey had one in the UK. Kansas had none. Yes only had one hit single here. Gary Wright's Dream Weaver stuff meant nothing here. We did...

What Rock Songs Should Have Been Radio Hits?

I always loved Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) by Looking Glass or Gonzalez, and was reminded of the song by watching Guardians of the Galaxy 2 last night. Looking Glass reached number one in the US, but only 51 in the UK. I don't think Gonzalez charted with Brandy, although they had a big hit with...

JUDAS PRIEST Guitarist GLENN TIPTON Diagnosed With Parkinson's Disease

Glenn Tipton can retire content in the knowledge that he was a central part of two of the greatest heavy rock albums of all time, Rocka Roller and Sad Wings of Destiny. Not many can say the same. I was not aware that Pat Torpey had died.

Where do old rockers with old fans go when they get old?

I went to physically big (for this country) venues and those with a big reputation, but always preferred the smaller clubs and pubs. I noticed a club near me, that had Tyketto and Glenn Hughes a short while ago, is now nearly all tribute acts. I don't mind them, but something has gone wrong if...

    Jimi Hendrix Experience (Official Thread)

This audio of Jimi Hendrix in Stockholm in 1967 is fifty years old (the song is even older), and there is not a modern guitarist to match the energy and power in his playing: The version from the BBC sesions is better, but I could not find a YT clip without interruptions of chat.

    Samantha Fish

Smantha Fish borrows from Mississippi Fred McDowell's version of the Bukka White song: Bukka White's original: I am no fan of straight blues (except perhaps John Lee Hooker and a touch of Little Walter), but these are worth watching.

^ Great. I love that sort of thing. Did she ever record Shake 'Em On Down?

    Journey (Official Thread)

The first and best with Perry includes material by Fleischman, such as Wheel in the Sky. The following Perry albums were good, but you could sense the decline, especially when Rolie and then Valory left the band. I liked Journey when there was still a trace of Santana. This is my favourite...

Do I detect a touch of John Lee Hooker? I love the sound she gets from the cigar box guitar (I had to look it up): https://www.cigarboxguitar.com/knowledge-base/samantha-fish/

    Master Of Reality

It is a big jump from good (stage 6) to great (stage 7). I would have said very good, but not quite great. Master of Reality is not Sabbath's best album and I would put it below the first two and Sabotage. Even Volume 4 and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath contain better material (SBS, Killing Yourself...

Agreed, but I am not an FF fan at all.

Gerry Rafferty 'City to City' Turns 40

Ali Campbell sings this pretty well, but I don't like the reggae arrangment or the instrumentation. The syn drums are awful. The musicians remain faithful to Raf Ravenscroft's saxophone, but the zooming synth is conspicuous by its absence.

How about this guy for new AC/DC singer?

Joe Lyn Turner might be available.

    Best/Favorite 4 album run by a rock band ?

I like each selection equally, where there is more than one by the particular band. Manfred Mann's Earth Band had two-and-a-half runs of four albums (all are consecutive): The first four: Glorified Magnified (1972) Messin' (1973) Solar Fire (1973) The Good Earth (1974) The second four...

    Covers, uncovers, remakes, etc.

Jesse Colin Young's Darkness, Darkness by Mott the Hoople. Mick Ralphs' version keeps the arrangement but is heavier and bluesier. Jesse Colin Young's original is more psychedelic, which sounds a bit dated now. Mott do not sound dated at all imo.

    Covers, uncovers, remakes, etc.

Mickey Newbury's I Wish I Was by Gamma, which is really Ronnie Montrose and Davey Pattison. The band do not really change the vocal arrangement, but exploit the natural dynamics of the song, for example emphasising the lyrical introduction. It sounds like BS, but it is true.

No, I am aware of a tribute concert, but I did not know it was on BBC 4 and missed it somehow.

Gerry Rafferty 'City to City' Turns 40

^ I like Mattie's Rag too, it as about Gerry Rafferty's daughter (Martha). She contributed to a recent article in Classic Rock magazine. Contrary to what I have read and heard before, he lived with her in the years before his death. His first solo album, Can I Have My Money Back?, recorded...

Gerry Rafferty 'City to City' Turns 40

My favourite track on this album is the beautiful Whatever's Written in Your Heart. The lyric is brilliant and his voice is perfect: The follow-up album, The Night Owl, is almost as good as City to City, but he could not do much wrong for me.

Who is the greatest musician who died before reaching his full potential?

    1. Jimi Hendrix - It is difficult to imagine what he could have achieved had he lived through the seventies. He would've needed a proper manager, abstinence from drugs and the absence of hangers on. He remains the first and greatest rock guitarist for me. 2. Phil Lynott - I loved his songs...
