I got physical copies of the Kings of Mercia Battle Scars album and the House of Lords Full Tilt Overdrive album in the mail yesterday. And then I stopped by my friend's record shop today where I picked up the following: Stevie Nicks - The Other Side of the Mirror Billy Joel - Cold Spring...

    Review Reviews in Brief

ACACIA AVENUE - EARLY WARNING (2016) When I saw that Acacia Avenue's 3rd album was recommended for fans of Survivor (plus Journey, Dokken and Giant), I was immediately intrigued because Survivor remains one of my favorite bands. But after listening to the album, I have to say I don't really...

    Review Reviews in Brief

DANGER ANGEL - DANGER ANGEL (2009) I have to admit when I first listened to this album, one big flaw to my ears kind of colored my opinion of the overall complete product. The flaw in question? At times, singer Jimmy Cage gets so screechy in his vocal performances that whether the music for a...

    Review Reviews in Brief

SEVENTH RIZE - FULL MOON (2009) - According to the listing on the label website, the band had a Bad Company vibe to their sound. While I don't know that I completely agree with that assessment, I do know that I was pretty impressed with the album overall. There's a gritty sensibility to the...

    Review Reviews in Brief

W.A.S.P. - W.A.S.P. (1984 / 1998 Reissue) - While I still own a cassette copy of the original 1984 release, the cassette really doesn't work. I've been slack on upgrading to a CD edition but the trip to a friend's record shop provided me an opportunity to get my hands on the 1998 reissued...

    Review Reviews in Brief

This post will be for various "old" albums that I've never reviewed here or anywhere else. They could be for albums released decades ago or even albums released in 2024 that I can't get a review done for before the year ends. My idea of brief might be longer than others, but it is unlikely that...

    Black Friday Sales News

For those of us rockers looking to add to our physical media music collections, have you found any great sales going on for Black Friday (or earlier)? Nuclear Blast Records is running a 20-30% off sale in their US shop on over 700 items. Metal Blade Records has a sale that's been running since...

Nice mix of bands that you saw Saiyan Rocker. I haven't seen any of those groups myself though.

    My 2024 Top 5 concerts!

MY TOP 5 CONCERTS OF 2024 It is that time of year again. Like numerous others I'm putting together all my best of 2024 lists. While I still have work to do on the other lists I'll be writing, my concert ranking is pretty short and sweet this year. So why just a Top 5 list for concerts this...

I am a bigger fan of Accept and have almost all of their studio releases. I was delayed in picking this new one up. Before this year, I only had the Legacy of Kings album from Hammerfall. But after seeing them open for Helloween, I am definitely a bigger fan than before and have to start...

I stopped by my friend's record shop today. I had to pick up three albums that I'd ordered from him but I ended up picking up some other stuff as well because he'd gotten some new collections in the last week or so. The three new CDs: Accept - Humanoid Hammerfall - Avenge the Fallen Ian Hunter...

I got the brand new Beth Hart CD You Still Got Me. I got a used copy of the debut Gamma Ray album Heading For Tomorrow. The weird thing about this one is that the hype sticker on the CD doesn't use the band name but rather the name of band founder/guitarist Kai Hansen. I also got a used copy...

Review Metro Society - The London Conspiracy: Chapter I - 1898

The Metro Society album The London Conspiracy: Chapter I - 1898 combines my love of murder mysteries and rock / metal music for a gripping tale of a detective on the hunt for the killer of his mentor in a city that even 10 years on is still in the shadow of the Ripper murders. You can check out...

Review House of Lords - Full Tilt Overdrive

I went to shows back in the day but only here and there. The House of Lords show I saw was at the Citi Club in Boston on Landsdowne street. The 2nd one was in New Bedford in recent years.

Review House of Lords - Full Tilt Overdrive

Ken Mary hasn't been with the group in years. And I don't write reviews based on how someone works the stage in a concert. I saw them opening for Nelson decades ago but saw them headlining a club a few years back. If you aren't a House of Lords guy, maybe you won't like it. But I happen to...

Met up with my best friend today. She's leaving mid-month to travel the world so we were exchanging Xmas gifts before she left. Among the stuff she gave me were the North Sea Echoes album Really Good Terrible Things and the self-titled Jimmy Wayne Jamison album.

    Queensryche (Official Thread)

I loved the Rage For Order album from the first time I heard it. And I've seen them 9 times, including twice on the Empire tour when they did the entire Operation: mindcrime album. It was at a Queensryche show where I saw the ONLY band I've ever seen get booed off the stage, Warrior Soul.

    Queensryche (Official Thread)

They are the band I've seen the most in concert. Operation: mindcrime is my all-time favorite album. I even wrote an article in my Cassette Chronicles series about it. READ IT HERE!

Favorite pic of your favorite artist

Well...she's ONE of my favorites. Beth Hart. I finally saw her live back in 2017. I wrote up a lengthy review article for it. And a guy who works for Blues Blast Magazine posted a photo he took of her from that show. I asked if I could use it to head up the article and he agreed. I think this is...
