    Any Grand Funk fans here?

If you go back a page, someone mentioned they had James Gang on vinyl, and the admin said she was jealous.

    Song Demos

Here's another Carole King demo, for "The Porpoise Song" that featured in The Monkees' movie, "Head" The quality is not great, but it sounds several leagues better than the first version I heard, in Real Audio format! I love box sets. I have hundreds of demos by all kinds of people now.

    Any Grand Funk fans here?

I like them enough to have bought all their CDs from Japan. I think my favorite track is "Creepin'" from the "We're An American Band" album. I've still got a gold vinyl single of WAAB. I have "Yer Album" and "Rides Again" on vinyl.

    Picture discs anyone?

I had all The Beatles pic discs, but they were stolen. I still have a shaped pic single of "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits, "And So Is Love" by Kate Bush, "Turn Up The Night" by Black Sabbath, and "No More Lonely Nights" (12") by Paul McCartney.

Classic Rock Songs you despise (or just don't care for)

I haven't listened to Freebird for at least 30 years. Everything by the Grateful Dead L.A. Woman, but I still love the rest of the album. I can't listen to Whole Lotta Love anymore, but the official video of that song cuts out 3:00 of guitar noises and edits to Bonzo coming in on the snare. I...

Tunes that you have sung while Drunk

I was taken to a party in 1981 to my friend's family home, where they had relatives and friends over. Someone had a 12-string guitar. So with 12 years of guitar playing, I sat down at the kitchen table and played one song after another and drank beer. I don't remember much, but I did a fairly...

    What was your first concert?

I think it was The Kinks at Maple Leaf Gardens, Toronto, 1977-04-29. Concerts were $40 then (converts to $213 now!).

which piece of music has moved you to tears?

The first time I heard "Tomorrow" by Wings. And I had always heard about Big Star but never heard them until I bought their GH CD. By the time it got to "Thirteen" I was reduced to a puddle.

What band have you followed the longest without having seen them live?

Well, The Beatles, who quit touring when I was eight, but I've seen Paul three times. But I've never seen Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd or The Who or the Stones. Actually, I was working at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto on the day when the Stones were to play Exhibition Stadium. I was...

    How important are rock critics?

I can't remember ever having bought a record because a critic said it was good. "Those who can rock, do. The rest write about it in rock magazines."

    *Altered States*

I will never forget the day when my friend, the electronics engineer, tested out his hand-built power amplifier, after some Thai stick, with the brand-new Boston album. Or the first time I heard "21st Century Schizoid Man."

    Worst Beatle Song

"Mr. Moonlight." Those covers they did in '63 were from their stage act. They didn't have an album full of their good songs yet. The covers after that were because they were too busy and burnt out from working so hard, that they just didn't sit down and write something. I think that possibly...

    Misunderstood lyrics

This isn't technically a lyric. But from the release of "Hey Jude" in 1968 until recent years, I thought there was a bit just before the sing-along coda starts, where someone said "OK, now!" But it was Paul McCartney, upset at having played something wrong, saying "Fuckin' hell!"

The Beatles - Come Together. It made me want to become a professional musician.

Nickelback, How Do You Feel Honestly

I'm completely out of the loop for that kind of music. But once, about 15 years ago, I was with a friend in his car and a song came on the radio. I said I liked it. Did he know who it was? Nickelback. So based on that one song, I can't think of why people would hate them. It didn't make me want...

    Is Your Partner Into Rock?

I'm a bit older than my wife, and she likes the '80s and '90s songs she knew growing up, but our musical tastes are quite similar. She loves that I know tons of old songs that are just fantastic, and says I haven't played her anything she doesn't like yet. We got together over our love of The...

    Reaction videos

This has become my new hobby, watching young people listen to classic rock music for the first time. I like "Airplay Beats" (La & Che), and Mollyboy, to name a couple. His name is Declan, and to see the look on his face when he goes into a song, not knowing the group or title or what genre it...

How do you organize your music collection?

Albums and CDs: A-Z by artist, in order of release, with Various Artists and soundtracks at the end. Singles: A-Z by artist and order of release, per year, with plastic dividers Digital files: Alphabetical by artist. I know an incredible number of collectors who couldn't begin to tell you how...

    Your collection

According to the database (CATtrax), today I have 19,039 records (all formats), with many more waiting to be listed. Number of individual tracks: 239,780. Yes, there are lots of things I haven't heard, but I'm retired now. I was saving it for now. All the records and an awful lot of CDs I...

    popular bands that you hate

Just about anybody who started their career after 1985. Well, I don't hate them, but I don't have any interest in them. I was done listening to the radio in 1990, by which time I had aged out of the demographic. I really like one song ("She's Electric") by Oasis, but everything else I've heard...
