IMHO Joe was at his finest when he was with the James Gang when he still played blistering guitar.
Check out their live album Live in Concert to hear him wail on the guitar!
Hendrix was also a big influence on the emergence of Funk and would have also been the master of that style of music.
Just check out his music after The Experience broke up and you could hear him inventing Funk with such tunes as Dolly Dagger,Message of Love,Izabella,Freedom and Highway Chile...
I would suggest buying the Nuggets complation for a great sense of how many great bands were forgotten or had bad management so they were left behind and forgotten.

Worst has to be In through the out door!
Prescence second worst but at least it had a few good tunes on it, the rest before that are all classic imho.
