Danny Darkness

Hey there, I'm Danny.

I was born in London. I grew up there, spent my early adulthood there, and in my mid twenties I decided I'd had enough, I'd done my time. :) So I moved here, to deepest darkest Cornwall, and ten years on I leave only for good, live music.

What else can I tell you? I work as a drug-counselor. I'm vegan. I'm an author (of strange fiction and even stranger poetry) and a photographer (of anything I find interesting). I guess I'm an 'outdoors type' if there's any such thing as a fair-weather variety, because sideways rain? No. Just no.

You'll often find me exploring the coast in my kayak, going for long (and usually spontaneous) walks. Cornwall's packed full of remnants of the past, from stone circles and excavated early settlements to Roman tin mines. I explore and take photos and I know every day how very lucky I am to be here.

I'm generally with my canine partner in crime. He started out as a Romanian street dog and a series of coincidences led to him being rescued and homed with me. I think he prefers his new life. He's called Frogdog because he's kind of smol and very bouncy, and also because he lies flat with his back legs out behind him, like a frog.

When the Cornish weather chases us indoors I listen to music constantly, I write, I role-play, and I fight with The Nordle - a half wild cat who recently adopted me - for possession of the keyboard.

Still with me? Cool! :)

On to the music bits, then...

I'll travel pretty much anywhere if there's a good band waiting at the other end. This last week saw me in London (at the 02 in Islington) for the incredibly talented
Jonathan Davis on his solo tour, and then in Cardiff (at the Donald Gordon Theatre in the Wales Millennium Centre) for the goddess of rock, Patti Smith.

Both gigs were f**king amazing!

(Anyone who caught either tour, drop me a message if you want to exchange stories.)

And, coming up...

If anyone's in London on the day of the Pride parade, I'm going to follow the parade and then head over to Hyde Park to see the Cure and anyone still left to play (there's a whole day of cool bands supporting them) before they take the stage in Hyde Park.

Later this year I'll be heading up to Edinburgh for the Fringe festival, where I'll definitely be seeing Amanda Palmer, and hopefully catching a bunch of cool Fringe acts.

Halloween will see me back in London for the awesome Dresden Dolls. They're playing the Troxy (new venue for me, but I've heard good things about the sound there).

I've been hoping they'd get back together for a tour, pretty much since they split up, and now they have. Happy Halloween for me! YAY! :)

If anyone has similar plans (or will be in any of those cities at the same time as me) maybe we could meet up??? I'll keep adding to this (and taking away the ones that have gone) as I find more amazing bands I can afford to go to, so um...
Watch this space, I guess! :)

Thanks for dropping by, and thanks for reading this long, rambling post. Please feel free to leave me a PM or message if you want to meet up at any of the aforementioned places, or if you want to chat about music, bands, gigs, or the world in general.

Hope to hear from you soon.
Peace out, much love,
Danny :) x
