Re: Fleetwood Mac

Arrrggghhhh!!! I can't handle anymore of this praise for Fleetwood Mac after they sold out!

:wtf: :banghead: :bricks: :bdh: :yo: :bu:

These are a couple of great Fleetwood Mac albums from the days when they were still keeping it real!

Steady Fox,,,,let's try to remain calm...:D

I have started to appreciate the earlier years of FM after the support from many members here, but I still enjoy the latter line-up more. I don't think they sold out, they simply changed from a blues-rock niche band to a massively popular rock/pop band, plus I enjoyed hearing Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie's vocals, gave me a broader appreciation of women in rock music, seeing they are always the minority.

I saw a video of Peter Green playing "Black Magic Woman" with Santana at the R 'n R HOF a few weeks ago, and he looked disinterested to say the least and Carlos played his heart out trying to pay tribute to his song.

Re: Fleetwood Mac

I go back quite a while with Fleetwood Mac. Although not as far back as the earliest Peter Green works, but I do remember 'Oh Well' being played on radio many years ago. I've always liked that song, so much so that I made a point of buying the CD, specifically for that song. I was pleasantly surprised to hear other songs on that release that were very good, as well. With most of the earlier material being blues orientated/inspired, some songs may not be for everyone, but there is really good blues-type jamming on some of the earlier albums, imo.

I do find it interesting, not only with some Fleetwood Mac songs, but other artists' as well, that many of the original versions of what are now considered classic songs that were possibly first heard being done as a cover version by another band some years later (i.e., Black Magic Woman, Oh Well, Green Manalishi).

The first Fleetwood Mac album that I did hear in it entirety was of the pre Buckingham-Nicks line up. Imo, Fleetwood Mac did become their most commercially successful with the Buckingham-Nicks line up, but there were quite a lot of internal 'things' going on within the band and the members personally that did both contribute and add more interest to many of their songs and music, too!

Kudos to Flower :) for the nice addition of the earlier years and I also agree with LG! Judas Priests' cover of Green Manalishi is fantastic, more so with their live version!

Re: Fleetwood Mac

I love 60's and 70's Fleetwood Mac, so I get the best of both worlds.

:nana:

I like this Fleetwood Mac ~

Formation and early years (1967–1970)

Classic stuff - but, sadly sometimes forgotten.

Fleetwood Mac (1968)
Mr. Wonderful (1968)
Then Play On (1969)

All three albums are a must have!

As far as the Buckingham/Nicks line up goes, I love the first two albums, Fleetwood Mac (1975) and Rumors (1977) but after that, really didn't care for them.

60's or 70's - You gotta love the Mac!

Fleetwood Mac - Peter Green - World Keeps Turning

Rattlesnake Shake (1969)

Oh Well (1969)

70's Fleetwood Mac...

Dreams (1977)

Blue Letter (1975)

Over My Head (1975)

The Chain (Live Japan 1977)

Re: Fleetwood Mac

My older sister went to see Fleetwood Mac in 69` in Nottingham and their music was always a favourite in the house. I grew up with Peter Green`s guitar sound and so have collected stacks of records and cd`s tracking his career. Switching pick-ups may have helped him develop his silky tone but there is no denying his ability. At his height he was one of the best and in full flight played some incredible blues. I have been lucky enough to see him several times with the Splinter Group and also as a guest with John Mayall but I would have given anything to have been there in Nottingham in 69`.

Jeremy Spencer does one of the best covers of "Preachin`" I have ever heard on the "Live At The BBC" recordings.

Re: Fleetwood Mac

How did I miss this thread, I too am a big fan of the Green and love all the stuff on Blue Horizon. I once played their debut for about 6 hours in a row as it's that good. I love their style and they make it look so easy. Here are some of my faves:
