I thought it would be cool to make a thread to see what jazz albums everyone has gotten. I usually get a lot of jazz albums during the holidays/beginning of the year. Jazz helps me cope with the craziness of winter. :grinthumb

I recently received:

Time Changes - Dave Brubeck Quartet
Mwandishi - Herbie Hancock
Head Hunters - Herbie Hancock

^^I've got a vinyl copy of Headhunters...haven't listened to it for decades.

I've really fallen off on collecting jazz the last few years.

With lovers, buggers, & thieves.
Being the music snob that I am, I'm uneasy of the lack of jazz in my collection.

Saw a video of a gentleman who recommended a short list of albums to start a vinyl jazz collection. I'm starting with five for now,
and one already arrived:

TIME CHANGES - Dave Brubeck Quartet

Got them all as original releases. These are the others I ordered and am awaiting their arrival:

BILLIE HOLIDAY God Bless The Child

THE BEST OF COUNT BASIE

DUKE ELLINGTON Sophisticated

Charlie Parker - The Very Best Of Bird

My recent purchases are some items edited by Blue Note Records, perhaps my preferred jazz label:

Dexter Gordon - Our Man In Paris

Andrew Hill - Point Of Departure

I just discovered this wonderful Jazz singer: Helen Merrill.

Downloaded her first two albums to check her out, and I'm really loving what I'm hearing! :)

"Don't Explain" Helen Merrill & Clifford Brown (1955)
Cry to hear folks chatter, and I know you cheat; but
right and wrong don't matter when you're with me, sweet.

She is a fine singer.
