they cannot get it right everytime....
But they did this time and they have with every album since and including "Lionheart". But that's just my opinion.

For me, it is hard to get too excited over a new album from a band that has been around as long as Saxon. They just don't seem to put out anything super exciting and new.......if you know what I mean.
I am looking forward to something new from Avantasia, which is suppose to come out next March, I think. Also, I think Amon Amarth is suppose to put out a new album.
Part of me thinks Saxon should have tried something a bit new but I guess with this point of their career they can't really do that so much now. Stick with a consistent formula. None of their albums these days are perfect but are pretty solid.
Edit - New album is great. Maybe a filler or two but still decent album.
Yeah I see what you mean. Saxon just aim for a consistent way about their music.
What did you think of Iron Maiden's new one?

that`s is stop on what I was trying to say Riff Raff...
Sure I'm a Saxon fan, but they aren't THAT great.
I have NEVER EVER heard an album that didn't contain a filler or two.
Same way I feel about it. Great return for them.IMO, Book Of Souls is an hour and a half of ear candy. Maybe too much ear candy.........but I'm impressed!
That's a fair way of looking at it. I think Saxon are good but there are bands I like more given they do take some sort of risk with their sound. I guess at the same time though it works for some bands to be more subtle about changes and retain more of the core sound. For me though as good as the new Saxon is, the Maiden record was infinitely better to me.Consistent, yes. Being comfortable with a musical formula is what I hear more people complain as the #1 reason music is in a rut. Nothing new = boring.

I have NEVER EVER heard an album that didn't contain a filler or two. But what I would consider a weaker song on an album may not be what you would think is the weak song. That's the beauty of music.......it's very personal and open for interpretation.
I personally consider them one of the best NWOBHM bands. Very few classic heavy metal bands, who have been around as long as Saxon, manages to continuesly release as good records as Saxon. But alas, we simply have to disagree.
I think there are tons of albums without fillers. For me a filler is the kind of track I'd normally skip, but we can certainly agree that most albums have mixed song qualities.
