it was a facebook post...he made the comments on. and i believe the guy has every right to say what he likes on on his own facebook page.

You are right! He does, foreverblue, but I’m tired of seeing his opinions showing up on every damn rock/metal news site around the world, regardless of where the original statement/post came from! He may have posted his comments on Facebook first, but they ended up on ultimaterock.com, blabbermouth etc, which I’m sure he was well aware would happen when he posted it.
Besides, my comment was more of a general observation, not just based on this particular story about Pink Floyd.

Exactly, dunno why people make a big deal out of it.

RR, this forum is running well, because people are passionate about music/musicians and post their opinions on various topics. If people stop doing that - at the risk of taking things too serious - most of the music sections would be dead and people would be playing word association all day (no offense to those who do play that game, I also post a lot of useless stuff in other sections)

On a personal note, I’m not the type of person who gets worked up over things, especially not what Mike Portnoy (or anyone else) is saying on the Internet – I’m as easy going as it gets, but that does not mean I don’t have an opinion on this and other – in the grander scheme of things – unimportant topics. :D

Anyway, I apologise for the rant…… I need a beer, but it's only 8:30 AM :gig

Yes but I was saying why is it that big a deal if someone blasts the idea of a new Floyd album. There are those who won't even consider it a true Floyd album without Waters on it. lol

Got to agree w/ the two of you. He's a music fan and has a right to his opinions on or off his facebook page. No skin off myvnose what Mike or anyone else says about Anything TBH. Never do expect everyone to agree wiith me on any topic ....were all indivduals as it should be. Hopefully we all live in parts of the world where we are all free to give our own opinions
Without fear of reprisal.

Yes exactly it's his own opinion. I've never heard dream theatre, but I did meet a couple of them at an AA meeting circa 2006. Nice guys and huge classic rock fans.

the greatest music Pink Floyd ever made was when David, Roger, Rick and Nick were together but I'll take PF's work after Roger left over any of his solo albums easily.

I'm not sure what to make of the new PF album really but in the end I trust David Gilmour and Nick Mason.

Agreed 100%.

The album has nothing to do with Waters. Rick Wright supposedly wrote a lot of the songs so it's kind of intended to be his swan song.
So I was quite irritated at that. Insinuating that Floyd is only Floyd when Waters is involved. Hello!!!!!!!!:pullhair: there were three other musicians in that band, not least of which was Rick Wright.

It would have been more disrespectful to Rick Wright to call it a Gilmour solo album.

Exactly! I'm also quite sick of fans constantly stating that Floyd is not really Floyd without Waters. The man controlled it and reduced it to a one-man show by the time of Final Cut. For that alone, I'm glad that Gilmour, Wright and Mason marched on.

:heheh: I don't get the 16 trillion game threads on this site. To each their own.

I'm with you on that one. Water-less Floyd was pretty good.

Of course, it does help a lot that I absolutely love The Division Bell and don't mind Momentary Lapse either. But my point is, from the mid 80s or so onwards Pink Floyd = David Gilmour, Richard Wright and Nick Mason. The fans just need to accept that fact, no matter what their feelings are about the music itself.

I don't think I've ever heard a song by The Winery Dogs but I agree 100% with every word Mike Portnoy said about The Endless River. In fact it's pretty much all the same things I said in the original thread about the new album. Releasing a "new" Floyd album without Rog at this point is disrespectful and calling it a new album when every other band in the universe would have put that material on an expanded release of The Division Bell is a grab for money, nothing more.

I adore The Division Bell and Momentary Lapse had some great songs as well. But this isn't 1994 anymore, releasing a new Gilmour-Floyd album washes away the beautiful reunion we saw at Live 8. What a sad waste of such a beautiful coda to the career of one of the greatest bands of all-time -- and they're throwing it away for a pieced-together outtakes record. What a shame.

I believe there's a slightly hidden agenda with the information that's been released about the forthcoming album. ie it's Rick's 'Swansong'. Go back to 1979 when Roger, at his most dictatorial, 'sacked' Rick from the band. He did The Wall tour as an employee and then he was gone. I don't think Dave has ever forgiven Roger for his actions at that time, or for what followed.
Once Dave had won the court action the first thing he did was bring Rick back into the fold.
And what was the result? Floyd fans across the world didn't give a f*ck that Roger wasn't in the band. They were just overjoyed that Floyd was continuing with three of it's members. Roger then came down to earth with a huge bump.
