I agree about Shania Twain. I think her whole popularity was the 'you go girl' attitude in they lyrics of her songs but as far as musically? About as bland and jinglesque as it gets.

But to boycott someone because of the way they are? I can't disagree more. I would buy Charlie Manson's albums if they were any good and an overwealming ammount of entertainers I like I wouldn't want to meet in real life because they disgust me.It's nice when a great entertainer is also a good person but it isn't at all neccessary to me.

Shania Twain was a waste of Paul Sabu and Mutt Lange's talents, but I assume they were amply compensated.

I'm not defending Chris Brown, nor do I even like his music, but I can't help but wonder if those who troll/hate him would stop listening to their favorite artist(s) if they happened to abuse their spouse too. I mean look at Jimmy Page, who had sex with underage girls half his age. I personally like to separate the antics of musicians from their work. I say this as someone who has been abused by a significant other too.

I dislike her for a couple of reasons.

1. She's an average talent, vocally, I think. There are some songs where you can hear
Chrissy Hynde's influence. Other than that, she's just as bland as the next

2. She dresses up like batgirl in her videos, because, you know, sex sells more records
than talent, especially in her case.

3. And this is my biggest reason for not liking her. She released the same album at the
same time, a country version and a pop version. Besides the obvious greed involved,
I wonder if anyone could tell the difference.


Now, on to Chris Brown. A lot of times, an artist's fans will overlook their personal flaws. Busted for pot, drunk driving, and other general idiocy that sometimes come with celebrity.

But for the life of me, I cannot and will not ever understand how someone could overlook a person physically harming another human being. It's one thing with for a guy to get in a brawl in a nightclub with another guy.

But to beat up someone smaller and weaker is unforgivable. I don't care if I offend people reading this thread who love the guy's music and still buy it. The day he put his hands on a woman should be the day you stopped buying his stuff. Other than child and elderly abuse, women beaters are the lowest form of life on this planet.

I would put rapists and serial killers as the lowest forms on the planet too.

I understand the argument of separating the antics outside the band I mean look at Varg of Burzum, he murdered Euronymous which I don't know the full story of but never the less he still has his fanbase.
I don't like Chris Browns music which is mainly why I don't listen to it but as far as a human being goes he is a low form of it.

Like Sooty said, it's not just what he did, it's his complete lack of empathy or remorse over his actions, and recasting himself as a victim. He even has a tendency to react violently when criticized for what he did. That does a hell of a lot to push his despicable reputation over the edge.

As I've said before in similar discussions, I can look past a lot, and I do my best to ignore an artist's personal life, because it really isn't any of my business. But there has to be a line. Some acts are just unforgivable, and it can spill over into the enjoyment of an artist's work. It doesn't matter to me, for example, if Roman Polanski makes the greatest movie in the history of film, I won't watch it because I will not support the work of a rapist.

Brown's case isn't quite so extreme...And, unfortunately, it probably wouldn't be very difficult to find artists that have hit women before (especially artists from the past, even the recent past)...But in this day and age, we really can't tolerate things like that.

Yes Jen, there are a lot of artists who should hang their heads in shame inlcuding Jimmy P :mad and no doubt about it, Chris Brown is sh*t and I don't like his music either.

I don't like his entire type of music but what he does when he isn't making music is of no concern to me. Besides, in a world where OJ and Lorena Bobbit go free who is to trust in what the media reports about someone.
