I know this may be a very callous thing to say in a thread like this but isn't it funny how anti depressants lead to so many suicides? I mean, in a way you can say it cures the condition but who do those idiot shrinks think they are to perscribe medicines to treat an organ we know so very little about?

I don't think it was Bobby's fault (although, I absolutely agree with Groovy that he seems for all intents and purposes to be a total scumbag)...And I also don't think it's appropriate to demonize the woman herself for falling into a bad place.

It's a scientific fact that our brains have a built in mechanism that tells us "It won't happen to me." I see it all the time..."I can do a little bit of heroin, or cocaine just this one time. I can stop whenever I want. I'm just having fun, letting loose a bit, I won't get addicted. I'm stronger than that, I've got too much willpower." If you've never really seen someone go off the deep end, then it's easy to overlook the fact that willpower and strength don't even factor in when it comes to drug abuse (which isn't to say that it doesn't take strength and willpower to say "No" or get out of it, but rather that falling into the trap doesn't make anyone weak or lacking in will).

Anyways...I don't understand the blame game that goes on whenever someone dies. There is no "what if," "could have," would have," or "should have." There's only what happened. Life takes us all out eventually. Whitney touched a lot of people, and it's sad to see that her candle burnt out so soon.

It's a shame really. Houston probably went with Brown because that whole "bad boy" thrill thing. I am not aware nor heard of her doing drugs prior to his relationship with him. Brown was into excess even before she was in his life so Houston got caught up in it which spiralled badly.

There are individuals out there [celebs or not] who can recognize the problems it is causing for them and have the fortitude/strenght to walk away from it. I'd cite Rihanna dumping Chris Brown as an example.

I haven't followed the news much on her but I wonder if she committed suicide perhaps?

This is why I don't take anti depressing meds for when I get depressed, I think the major downside to it is dependency. Once they try to gradually get off the stuff you never know they could find it too difficult and some people probably do take their own life as a result.

We're told the fans tried to compliment Paul on his performance at the Grammy Awards last night ... but Paul brushed off the praise ... insisting, "This is about Whitney, not me."

That is Paul showing total class right there!

never took a liking to Bobby Brown but I'm not sure how people can blame him for her drug use? I lived with an ex-junkie for a year or more, who turned into a junkie again and it never even crossed my mind to do heroin or try whatever other stuff.

Grown ups make their own choices and do what they want with no one to blame except themselves. Then you get addicted and can't deal with real life without some subtance abuse and you end up dead in the bath

You know I was thinking about it today, and I'm not sure how many kids Whitney has but I'm sure it must make it that much more difficult to grieve and cope with the entire world zeroed in on your family's situation just like it must have been for the Jackson kids. :uh:

I have a very good friend who took her own life as a result of these drugs. The anecdotal evidence for this possibility is so overwhealming you'd think they might do something sensible like halt the practice of perscribing such crap until they learn a little more about what they are doing.
It is scary that people are still being perscribed a 'medicine' to supposedly fight depression that often ends up leading a person to the ultimate depressed state.

Indeed. I think if anything the meds hide the problem. Hiding the problem is the absolute WORST thing a depressed person should do.

Whitney has one 18 year old daughter, Bobbi Christina. She already has been in and out of the hospital likely due to stress over the situation. Sounds like she was already growing up dealing with a lot due to her mother.

I don't think Whitney's death was a suicide; more like a horrible accident. I do agree that psychotropic meds that tinker with your brain chemistry, which we really know little about, are generally not good and can cause more problems than they solve, strictly IMO ...

I've complained quite loudly before when it comes to certain other people in music about the public seeming to be more preoccupied with the person's "dark" side, the dirt, and how they died and seem to overlook their musical legacy. This is sad what happened but I'll remember Whitney for her contributions for the music world. I know I have at least one of her albums on vinyl, maybe her first one. I need to get that one out and give it a spin.
