GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist Is 'Really Excited' About Working On Follow-Up To 'Chinese Democracy' - Nov. 6, 2010
During an interview (see video below) with the Artisan News Service on the "black carpet" of this past Thursday night's (November 4) party to promote the release of the new video game "Call Of Duty: Black Ops" in Hangar Eight at Santa Monica Airport, California, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist D.J. Ashba said that fans won't have to wait long for the band's next studio album. "We're talking about that right now," he said. "We've been throwing around a bunch of ideas and it should be good, man. We've got a lot of good stuff on the plate coming out. It won't take as long, I promise. Yeah, I'm excited to get this next one rolling. A lot of great shit. Axl [Rose, vocals] has a lot of good shit up his sleeve, so I'm really excited about it."

In addition to Ashba and sole original member Rose, the current lineup of GUNS N' ROSES includes guitarists Ron Thal and Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer.

GUNS N' ROSES' latest album, "Chinese Democracy", was released in November 2008 as a Best Buy exclusive, 17 years after the last all-original GUNS sets, "Use Your Illusion I" and "II". The album was a commercial disappointment, selling less than one million copies in the U.S. (according to Nielsen SoundScan) despite the long wait.

Ashba joined GUNS N' ROSES in March 2009 following the departure of Robin Finck. Rose stated about D.J.'s addition to the group at the time, "D.J.'s a gifted, energetic guitarist that GUNS N' ROSES is proud to have on board!! We're very excited to have the opportunity to work together. GUNS' radar has silently been aware of D.J.'s presence for quite some time. He brings a fresh approach to our particular brand of mayhem expanding the tapestry of GUNS N' ROSES live. Once D.J.'s name was in the hat, the hat disappeared!!"

According to Sebastian Bach, Axl has a bunch of songs already written....and then according to Axl, Sebastian overestimates what they actually have written already. :bonk:

I have to say that as one of the (seemingly) few fans of "Chinese Democracy" the lack of Buckethead would be quite sad since I really enjoyed his playing on the last album. However, I am impressed with DJ Ashba as a guitarist from his work with Sixx:AM and I am even more impressed with his work as a songwriter (writing a few songs for Meat Loaf and others over the last few years). Maybe if DJ and Axl put thinking caps on and heads together we'll see a new album soon......or before the end of the decade at least.

I'm motivated in no way to hear anything from 'the axl rose band'. I feel sorry for the fans who are actually sticking it out. Poor bastards

Yeah, I've got some big reservations about Axl using the name "Guns N Roses." In fact, Velvet Revolver probably had a better claim to it than Axl does. I'm glad that they didn't use the name, because Guns N Roses needs Axl to be Guns N Roses, but it needs Slash (if not the other members) just as much.

G N' R name or not I agree with Cosmic that Chinese Democracy was an awesome album. Axl had the balls to go all over the map musically and incorporated a lot of styles into the album. Outside of the one two punch of the Use Your Illusion albums it was the most ambitious thing anyone affiliated with G N' R ever did. I have bought all the G N' R albums at some point so I was a moderate fan but Chinese Democracy was the first time I was like "Oh wow!!!!" "Better" stuck in my head more than any G N' R track ever did. Growing up on G N' R in my diet it was pretty much that rebellious rock thing that sold them. The music was good but I think with younger audiences it's more about the attitude at that age. When you grow up you want a band more about the music and developing themselves out of the cliche. As far as Velvet Revolver I don't think they could've been more generic. Thank God Scott went back to STP! I can't wait for the new album because I love where Axl is at right now musically! :grinthumb

@ Optimistic-Why would you feel sorry for anyone liking something. Liking an artist never damaged anyone but just the opposite. If someone finds music that's makes them happy they are better off than disgruntled fans, right?
