Concert Dress Code Rule

So, there was a discussion I saw some people having.

They said

So my wife and I were having a debate. I've always heard that there is an unwritten rule that you don't wear a band's shirt to that band's show. If you're going to see Metallica, you don't wear a Metallica shirt. You should wear the band shirt outside of or at other venues to show your support for said band. My wife says I'm crazy. Has anyone else heard this?

So I never heard of this rule, have any of you?

Yes, I've heard of that "rule" before.

The exception to that rule is Iron Maiden.

I never knew that either. I ALWAYS buy a T-shirt, sweatshirt, or whatever merchandise is there. Wow, you would think they would be glad to see their fans buying their stuff.

Old school rules.. Don't sell your poser merchandise at my venue.. Tramps can swoop in like a artificial mock off.. might as well just slap the guys selling t shirts outside of the venue.. Can only make a buck off your silly ass ****..

I always have a personalised T.shirt made before the gig, maybe a rare album cover or an old tour poster.... (on the Bigger Bang Tour i was at a tube station in London, wearing 'Keith up a palm tree' cartoon and a slogan underneath saying : "next time you fancy coconut, go buy a Bounty Bar")
.... This concert followed him falling from a tree on Parrot Cay Island, guy bought it on the platform for 50 bucks!... off my back - good job I had just arrived in England and had my small hand luggage with me!

I’m sure age or maturity is a factor here. I’m sure when I was younger, I would wear the bands’ merch to the concert, and new merch bought at the show the next day.

At some point you might say, “they know I’m a fan of this band or I wouldn’t be here. I’ll wear a shirt from some other band or fictional character so everyone knows I also like this other thing.” Then you get to a certain age when you say, I’m just gonna wear a Hawaiian print shirt and Jebus sandals and pretend I’m having a good time listening to the band lipsynch their jukebox hits.

Maybe a little more T.shirt wearing and a little patch/emblem sewing on denim is what is needed, the music industry and the whole mechanics of it have been lost to bedroom warriors on Xbox and PS...
Youth need to know the exhilaration of opening a Sabbath album and playing that crisp new album.

I only buy stuff once I'm inside the venue. I'm wary of all the bootleg crud out there.
