If you enjoyed ZZ Top‘s new record ‘La Futura,’ guitarist/vocalist Billy Gibbons has some good news for you: There’s a lot more where that came from.

Speaking at the eighth annual Classic Rock Roll of Honor Awards last week — where the band took home this year’s Living Legends prize — Gibbons reflected on the album’s long-delayed release, telling Classic Rock Magazine that “actually, if we wanted to we could probably put out another new record inside nine minutes. When we picked our songs for ‘La Futura,’ we had another 10 songs that could have made the grade too.”

And it sounds like they would have made the grade if not for some cold feet on the part of ZZ Top’s label, American Recordings, the imprint owned by producer Rick Rubin. “The label didn’t really want to release a dual disc in this rather topsy-turvy musical landscape, where promoting new material is so challenging,” explained Gibbons. “So we’re sitting on 10 more songs from the same session with Rick. We have that big ball of wax waiting to roll.”

Asked to guess whether the leftover ‘La Futura’ tracks could end up being released in 2013 as their own standalone album, Gibbons shrugged. “Well, I’m hoping — but things in ZZ Top world don’t always follow real-world rules.”

I still don't have La Futura in the library yet...:peek

But it's nice to know we could see another album in the next couple years of New material from the Legends.

Picked up a mint vinyl copy of Tejas yesterday, Deguello is next on my list.
