My daughter was born in 1979..Gen X. She's not a fan of prog rock.
There was so much experimentation going on from 1965-69 that it all ran together and styles were mixed. As I said above I post on Prog Rock Archives and we are always arguing about when and who started 'prog rock'. There is no real answer though most do believe that ITCOTCK by KC was probably the first major example of full blown prog rock. Earlier than that many bands were playing with the edges and doing cool things. You should ck out https://www.progarchives.com/
IT 's a really well done place for all things prog and prog related.
BTW...I'm 73 this summer....I go back to the beginning with all of these bands.
