Though I haven't done much research on actual bassist players, I do love and respect the bassists. They add flare to the music that sometimes goes unknown. So, even though I don't have an actual list (I'm leaving that up to you guys!), who are your top bassists? Mine is definately Duff Mckagan from GNR. I think that he was actually one of the key members of GNR. Not only that, but he is freaking hot. If I could bring the 80's Duff to 2011, maybe I wouldn't be mrs. Nick Simmons. lol:heheh:. So now it's your turn: who are your favorite bassists?

Paul Goddard from Atlanta Rhythm Section, check out the track Another Man's Woman off the Red Tape album, he's got amazing talent.

From across the pond Chris Squire from Yes...best live bass guitar solo I've ever seen/heard live in concert.

And Geddy Lee my homeboy, one of the top 5 ever to pick up a four string.

And forgot to add one of the most influential jazz/fusion bassists of all time, Stanley Clarke.

Cliff Williams of Ac/dc the guy doesn't get nearly enough mentions even for a bassist ffs.

David Ellefson of Megadeth this guy and Mustaine are founders of the band, its good to have him back on bass.

Cliff Burton of Metallica before he died was a fantastic bass player, his bass playing really added to the flow of the music in what was Metallica's good era, when he died things went a bit downhill.

Lemmy of Motorhead - Speaks for itself.

David Vincent of Morbid Angel - Amazing death metal bass player also is the vocalist.

Mrs. Nicksimmons..Thanks for the Bassist love.. I think your right about them not getting much recognition..
I play Bass and drums and LOVE it more than playing any other instrument!
It's hard for me to list fav's because they all have something unique about their playing..
I will try to come up with a list later, that breaks down what I like about each one I consider notable for the style of playing they do..:cheers2

Just a knee jerk reaction, but one of my favorites is Les Claypool.

Especially his work with Primus and Sausage.

I can't say I'm a huge fan of Primus but it's obvious the Les is one of the absolute best bassists ever.

I was listening to Black Sabbath's debut earlier today and Geezer's bass playing on that album in particular is just great. His playing is stronger than just about anyone in those days.
