@joker1961, your list is great, but I do think bands like Oranga Goblin and Monster Rock are more stoner rock than doom and Down is more sludge. Not important mind you.

I'm gonna go with pure doom, which means stuff like classic Paradise Lost, Katatonia and Anathema, which was more a mixture of death metal and doom are not going to be on my list (They would have made the top 5 otherwise).

    Candlemass
    Cathedral
    My Dying Bride
    Trouble
    Witchfinder General

Honourable mentions: Thor's Hammer and Solitude Aeturnus

Mine will be mostly bands that mix Doom in with others.

    Katatonia
    Swallow the Sun
    My Dying Bride
    November's Doom
    While Heaven Wept

Honourable mentions to Paradise Lost, Candlemass, Cathedral, Pallbearer, Woods of Ypres.

Lucifer / The Oath .... only one album each but I love these albums and I kind of see them as a pair.

As the pioneers of the sound that influenced the Doom genre I don't really put them in that category or they would have been my number one.

With all due respect gentlemen I consider Sabbath's first four albums as traditional doom as I do their latest release, '13'.
