They played in Reading in March or April this year. Not a fan of them nor familiar with their stuff, but my friend went there. It was pretty hilarious how he was telling the stories from the show - "You want to hear some old school black metal?" "Yeeees!!!" "Then you're in a ****ing wrong gig!"

watains earlier albums are more black metal but their lawless darkness album is a bit more mature.

Would you say their first album is any 'thrashy' or is it like properly proper black metal as usually it is now?

honestly? id say they are black metal, developing more of an instrumental ear by lawless darkness. and there are few true blackish metal bands going around, its split into so many subgenres.

Not wrong about a bit more of a mature approach on latter Watain but it is still black metal as it comes. Lawless Darkness is a fantastic album so far from my first listening.
