I do not know if I am in the right section for this but, I want to introduce you as the title says the most popular and timeless greek rock artist, Vasilis Papakonstantinou
First I think I should give some information about him I guess
    Information was taken from wikipedia
Vasilis was born in Vastas,Arcadia on June 21 1950 (65 years old right now) and he is still active
His first musical encounter was with Mikis Theodorakis in the summer of 1974, in Paris - their collaboration commenced two years later. In 1974, Vasilis returned to Greece following the fall of the dictatorship and embarked on a professional singing career, singing in clubs, and also recorded a 45 rpm gramophone record. That same year he collaborated on the recording of "Ta Tragoudia tou Dromou" (Road Songs) by Manos Loïzos.
In 1975, he recorded "Ta Agrotika" (Rural Songs) by Thomas Bakalako and met with two composers with whom he was going to work closely for many years: Manos Loïzos and Thanos Mikroutsikos, two composers that were bearing a fresh new sound to Greek music
In 1976 his much anticipated collaboration with Mikis Theodorakis took place in the recording of "Tis Exorias" (Songs of Exile), and in 1978 the composer included Vassilis in the singers who took part in his international tour of Europe, the Americas and Australia. At home Papakonstantinou actively took part in youth and worker movement rallies, singing at strikes, meetings, anti-racist and anti-fascist concerts
From that time on, just before the 1980s, Papakonstantinou began demonstrating influences from the international rock movement. He performed songs which had an obviously more thick sound and more acute and intervening lyrics
He met Nikolas Asimos and took part in his first record "Xanapes" (Say it again) by singing two songs. Assimos became the second person after Loizos, who influenced him a lot with his peculiar personality. In 1984 with his record "Dieresi" (Division) his new sound was finally established. In 1987 he reconfirmed it in "Heretismata" (Greetings) including songs by Nikolas Asimos, Aphrodite Manou, and Christos Tolios and by the mid-1980s Vassilis Papakonstantinou was considered one of Greeces most popular concert performers
In April 1985, a 16,000 audience attended his first major personal concert at the Peace and Friendship Stadium and again in June 1988 at the Apostolos Nikolaidis Stadium on Alexandras Avenue. Vasilis, never received any support from the media; even though his era was eroting away as many suggested 8 years ago, however in the 19th festival of EDON (new democratic youth of CYPRUS- or as many would suggest the Communist youth) Vasilis managed to attract a 20,000 tickets-sold out audience, many managed to enter the concert by jumping over the walls and fences rasing the sum of those who attended to around 23,000. Making it probably the biggest sold out concert ever made on the island.
He united three generations of fans including a strong following of "educated" adolescent fans. At the end of the 1980s, he interpreted "difficult" songs with lyrics written by Kostas Tripolitis and music by Thanos Mikroutsikos. In between he sang "Chorevo" (I am Dancing)
Although his songs of the last years follow the sound of "popular" culture he hasn't hesitated to record LP albums on the verses of two of the most celebrated Greek poets. In 1984 he sang poetry by Kostas Karyotakis in a record named after the poet, and in 1993 "Fissai" (It is Blowing) had verses by Tassos Livaditis and music by Giorgos Tsegaris. He interpreted Nikolas Asimos again in 1992 in "Falimento tou Kosmou" (The end of the World) and in the last decade he made "Sfedona" (Sling). In 1995 he made "The Shikoni" (Impossible)
Vasilis was active during 2000s and he is still giving live concerts and making albums the last one was 2013 winter
Many great artists have said that Vasilis was both lucky and unlucky to be born in greece because if he was born in an English speaking country he would propably be world famous now
Despite his rock nature he has also many ballads
Sorry for the long post but that was just an introductionary post :D

I'll post his two most popular songs on youtube, and i ll try to translate for you as far as my english knowledge allows, I hope that you will like em :D
    The Souls and Loves

He doesn't care about anything in the world
    but keeping his mind open
    being scared into the remission
seeing again the worn out soul itno the formalin
chops his body and his burrying it
to be idvided into fire and water

    at the sixteen freezing nightmares
some faceless night lights he is lending
    to arid, unloved rebels
haunted to a converged international highway
    finds the ray that remains
and with it he will share the escape

    The souls and loves
    siamese illusions
    similar like white keys
    like leds in the night
    they find virgin bodys
    sold to the convention
    with kisses they redeem them
    they give them themselves

    This primitive African rythm
reminds Syrian "Ballos" (= greek traditional dance)
human sacrifice to the volcano Gods
    shines like a reprodutcion altar
hold your breath for a while, my love
enclose this whole moment to a kiss

Look around how "Meteora" are falling (=a greek location/sightseeing)
    snow balls, remain still alive
judge me like a person looking for his soul
an if you're in for him i'll tell you "sorry"
There are months that i am host to terror
and i need you to see me like a little child

    Oh, perplexed baby
    foreign into your brain
    what should you sing first
and on wich door should you knock
i'll tell you so that they convince you
    dress you with silk
    to be shown white teeth
    into your smile

One thousand and one nights at the globe's suburbs
    chained lodestar
i used to let others talk for me
and i was afraid of beeing saw by the daylight
The lost years i will take back
you just have to say once and then "I love you"

    Red horizon the remaining years
make the signal so that my soul will find you
faces, ports keep the "they're leaving"
hug me and take me with you
    videotapes the life i saw
of my homeless mind you are the home

    Oh my love, love
a little diamond in the ashes
and an island wich has for a lighthouse
    a drunk seagull
    around you fluttering
    spelling your name
aiming your glance and lets itself

    Before the end

The little train was going round all lighted up and hazy in the wind
The sea below, with a ship, and further off, the moon
I often remember you, wearing a white dress,
holding my hand, telling me "just being alive is not enough for me"

In the songs we used to sing the two of us, the voices got soften
Into the little bench, a heart was scratched, which they later betrayed
Once upon a time you told me "it can't be - there must be others who felt it too
just before the end, that the silence looks like a great love"

And I that live here forever, always leaving before seeing the end,
Every night that passes I come back again, I turn into darkness and am giving in
into your rhythm, which still burns this body, which is for years without a shadow
As each night passes like a movie all we lived is projected with the background the square

As each night passes, always here
and always leaving before we are left alone, so not to see the end.

The stair was made of iron and you were telling me "only a few of us will remain"
The night has started to fall heavily and the air is choking me
Forgoten and stray engines in the street's dust
Think of the floor being black and white you you being the pawn
Once upon a time you told me ''it can't be- there must be others who felt it too
just before the end, that the silence looks like a great love"

And I that live here forever, always leaving before seeing the end,
Every night that passes I come back again, I turn into darkness and am giving in
into your rhythm, which still burns this body, which is for years without a shadow
As each night passes like a movie all we lived is projected with the background the square

As each night passes, always here
and always leaving before we are left alone, so not to see the end.

"Corsair" one of his most popular songs both a song about those that lost their lives on their motocycles and an anti-drug song

    Corsair
    On the asphalt a corsair
With a motorcycle for a ship
Your flag is a plastic jacket
At eighteen, you broke the brakes
You are travelling in other journeys

You only get around when you are high
Your entire world is a thousand cc*
    You are angry
    You are tired
You have your life written on your saddle
You were born for some murder

    Peers surround you
You are not afraid of them, they do not love you
You are smuggling your life away
    Nevertheless, you are afraid
    You are afraid to sleep
Therefore, you begin your journey once again

Your fingers frozen on the brake
There is a bloodstain on your jacket
    Next to the thousand
    To your thousand cc
    Next to your thousand cc

    Lone at the daybreak
At the daybreak in the highway
    You are awaiting the ambulance
    Dead since 10 past 3

    Holiday
That's a highlight from a concert Scorpions had in Athens in 2009 and Papakonstantinou was invited as a guest star and interpeted some of his songs
He singed "Holiday" with Klaus Meine

    Greetings

I don't want to rule in life
Ι want to stay a fanatic follower
Of those that always "eat" it from behind
And at "0" they go again constantly

    So, greetings to the authority
I keep the substance and I dream
I grab my guitar and I sing
I love you but I am not getting married

I don't want you to make me a satrap
Neither an accοmplice in group tricks
From the radio I send you with love
My songs and two sweet kisses

    So, greetings to the authority
I keep the substance and I dream
I grab my guitar and I sing
I love you but I am not getting married

I don't want to monkey the competent
To take decisions behind closed doors
I am one of those that stay out
Because I neither have a tie nor a brown

    So, greetings to the authority
I keep the substance and I dream
I grab my guitar and I sing
I love you but I am not getting married

    I do not exist

It was like the road was lengthening
You were walking and the night had fallen
And me by your side with my gait slow
I was holding you in my arms, but I didn't have you

I was talking to you the day before yesterday all night
And you were listening to me a sneaking shadow
And just as the voice enters into the tremor's scene
You told me "Turn of the light,Goodnight"

Like a glass in the hand of the city
My kisses bleed wherever I find
In the midnight I kill you and I live
But from somewhere far your voice again
    Telling me "I am here,but I didn't find you"

In my hand, you like a flag that wins
Marguerite made of Neon loves me and spreads me
And girls' shadows like you smile at me
Just when it dawns they'll deny me 3 times

I do not exist, I do not exist, I do not exist
I do not exist and I am here

    I step,look,on your electrified rope
With your "No" as a net on an empty dance floor
And those eyes that drive me to the vacuum
All the night I pay them before it dawns I owe them to you

You do not exist, You do not exist, You do not exist
You do not exist and you are here

Hey Vasilis, you've made a really nice thread here and I can tell you're definitely a fan! I listened to the first two songs and they're pretty good! Song nice romantic songs with some nice song structure to them! :) He's a very passionate artist who looks like he's had a long career. I could put this in a more appropriate section for you. I'm curious, what decade do you think he was the most successful in? :)

Hmm it is hard to choose his most successful decade it either 90s or 80s I'd go for 80's move the thread wherever you think it's better ^^

Cool! I will do that only because the Rock Lounge is a more open topical area and not one where specific band/artist threads sit! The 80's might get more views for you! :grinthumb
