Both drummers in this poll would admit that, at least I know Peart does.
Oh I know. I was just injecting a bit of humor as that Buddy vs Animal thing always makes me crack up.Both drummers in this poll would admit that, at least I know Peart does.

Buddy, in my opinion, was the single greatest drummer of all time because of what he did, who in influenced and in my honest opinion, he really upped the bar on drummers and their potential to do more with a song that simply keep a beat. Buddy is also one of the VERY few drummers that I could listen to doing a drum solo that really is almost like a song unto itself, as opposed to many rock drummers that beat the shit out of the drums, sometimes fast, sometimes hard, sometimes just doing a cool beat.
Add to it one more thing, he did it with a teeny/tiny drum kit. Can you imagine what Buddy could have done in his heyday, with a drum kit like Peart's or Portnoy's?
(sidenote: Krupa was also fantastic, but I'm not anywhere near as familiar with his work as opposed to what I know of Buddy's)
I read Bonham does too. Led-Zeppelin once played Carnegie Hall in 1969, he was quoted to say "Better be good tonight...Buddy Rich played here!" Rich was an icon to him as much as Scotty Moore was to Page. Both drummers in this poll would admit that, at least I know Peart does.
John Bonham here. Although, for me - Ian Paice is the greatest of the drummers.
