I haven't heard all of Joe Walsh's material, but I've heard stuff he did with the James Gang, the Eagles and on his own, and I really liked what I heard, so I'm thinking of getting one of his albums. I've narrowed it down to The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get and But Seriously, Folks... Which one do you folks think I should get?

I am bit of a Joe Walsh fan although I don't listen to Joe's stuff exclusively to everything else around anyway personally I like the live album You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind from 1976 but out of the three studio albums that you mention probably But Seriously Folks... mainly because it has the 8 minutes plus Life's Been Good on it which was a world wide hit single although the album overall has a kind of a mellow feeling and sound to it except for the track Life's Been Good.

The live album You Can't Argue With A Sick Mind has good live renditions of songs on it including Joe's signature song Rocky Mountain Way along with Walk Away, Meadows, Time Out, Make It Through The Night & Turn To Stone.

The James Gang cds are currently out of print in the UK although they probably are available via Amazon?.

Between the two I'd go with "The Smoker You Drink...", but my favorite is "So What".

So What is a superb album which shows the full range of his talent, with a classical piece included. Just enjoy ! You can’t argue....is one of my very favourite live albums. I was lucky to see him at Wembley Stadium in 1975 on a bill that featured the Eagles, the Beach Boys, Chaka Khan and Elton John. I also like the Smoker you drink, in fact just buy the lot !

I was watching the Eagles History dvd recently and Joe said that he was happy being in the Eagles but after the band came to an abrupt end in 1980 Joe slid into drink and drug abuse which he recovered from but some interesting American tv and film footage from the 1980s appears in the Eagles History dvd and shows Joe stoned or drunk or both on stage at a stadium gig in the US and although you wouldn't want to see a major rock musician like Joe in that state normally but it was fascinating to watch him to be honest and he managed to hold it together when he played the opening guitar figure to Funk#49 which I would have liked to have seen more of to be honest.
