I am wondering if any guitar and / or bass players out there, have ever had a "trigger finger" problem in a finger of your left hand?
IF so, what did you do to get rid of it?

For those who do not know what the ailment is, here is description:

What happens is, when a finger is bent, (let's use the middle finger, for this case) for example playing a D chord, one of the joints, (usually the lower of the 2) gets frozen stuck in the BENT position. Also the finger feels stiff, and may get slightly deformed, to the point where it can not be in a normal straight position.
Releasing the finger can also be quite painful.

Replies from any players who have suffered with trigger finger are most appreciated.

I've had a finger get stuck in that way on occasion but it was more like cramp. What you're describing with the swelling and all that sounds more like some form of arthritis, which I hope it isn't. Or maybe chillblains..! Do you have a day job working outside in cold weather by any chance...? I used to work in old tenement buildings on renovation projects when I was a lad and they were just wind tunnels for the icy blast in the winter and my finger joints were afflicted with chillblains which made them swell and become stiff.

That guitar in your avatar pic...Is it a Musicman Sabre by any chance...? The original pre Ernie Ball ones are very rare and I used to own one back in the 1980s but stupidly sold it. :blush2: Worth a packet nowadays....

@Schmetterling Nov. 11 2017 Thanks for your response.
Actually, I live in a climate similar to Hawaii.
And, yes, the trigger finger, or flexor tendinitis, is related, in my case according to some Doctors who checked it, to arthritis.
In October I saw a Dr. who did a procedure, but failed to relieve me of the problem. Next week I will try again with another Dr. who has a hand surgery specialty, but won't need to do any surgery, he thinks.

About the bass in my avatar, I am the original owner of that beautiful "blonde" MM Sabre, with narrow neck option, and it IS a pre E. Ball model. Great instrument.
As far as the value goes, last time I checked it was $2,500.00 minimum.
    Mine is in nice shape.
Also am the original owner of a '76 T-Bird bass, natural finish.

Ah yes, lovely guitars. Mine was a 1980 or 1981 model which I paid £250.00 for - I guess about $350.00 US at the time - I sold it for a fair profit 3 years after buying but have always regretted selling.

    Good luck with the Doc..

Yeah , I like that name for a high power movin' & shakin' rock group. :guitar:
And, before I got affected with the "trigger finger", I never heard of it, either.
