Out of all the songs that come to mind these to me are the saddest and each have their own meaning.
Some are very thought provoking and others bring out emotion. weather or not you are having a bad day or things have
been getting you down or maybe you have been bottling up your emotions and need to let it all out you can be sure that if you put on your favorite sad song that you can find some sort of comfort in listening to.

Paula Cole ft. Peter Gabriel - Hush Hush

This song was written about and dedicated to a friend of Paula’s from San Francisco who died of AIDS. The song also features guest vocals by Peter Gabriel (as the father figure) and a shimmer by Kevin Killen.

Winter - Tori Amos
The Serpent & the Dove - Lisa Gerrard
3 Libras - A Perfect Circle
Field of Innocence - Evanescence
Tears of an Angel - RyanDan
Hurt - Johny Cash

That's a pretty sad list. (pun intended)

It's funny this thread showed up just now. I've been toying with the idea of making a cd of sad songs.

So far I've got:

Streets of Philidelphia ~ The Boss
One Step Up ~ The Boss
Mad World ~ Gary Jules
I Can't Tell You Why ~ The Eagles
At 17 ~ Janice Ian
Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word ~ Elton John

A couple that always spring to my mind. Pete seems to be really letting out his torment.

"Man Of The World" ...

Similar with Phil "Opium Trail" the sadness is in the lyrics.

I'll have a ponder over the other eight.:D

This one is probably more morbid than sad, but it certainly isn't a happy tune.

Bloodrock - DOA

I remember, we were flying a-low,
and hit something in the air

Laying here, looking at the ceiling,
Someone lays a sheet across my chest.
Something warm is flowing down my fingers
Pain is flowing all through my back.

I try to move my arm and there's no feeling
And when I look, I see there's nothing there.
The face beside me stopped bleeding
The girl I knew has such a distant stare.

I remember, we were flying a-low,
and hit something in the air.

Then I look straight at the attendant,
His face is pale as it can be.
He bends and whispers something softly,
He says there's no chance for me.

I remember, we were flying a-low,
and hit something in the air.

Life is flowing out my body,
pain is flowing out with my blood.
The sheets are red and moist where I'm lying.
God in Heaven, teach me how to die.

I remember, we were flying a-low,
and hit something in the air.

This one because we lost him that year and he was just coming back ... plus the song is a powerful one.

Woman .. John Lennon.

Another powerful one that for some reason leaves me blue.

In A Broken Dream .. Python Lee Jackson.

A Robert Johnson tune and whatever is going down here leaves me mellow and sad .. Hell Hound On My Trail.
