Valerie June Joines Elwood 05/28

Pushin' Against a Stone... Valerie June

(Analoggal note: Imo, Valerie's singing has a Diana Ross quality to it.)

Tennessee-born Valerie June is a one of a kind roots musician. She has worked with Black Keys, Booker T. Jones, John Forte and Meshell Ngdecello. Elwood will play those, and then welcome Valerie June and her own release, Pushin' Against a Stone, produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys. Besides her excellent music, Elwood will play some folks who influenced her: Mississippi John Hurt and Jesse Mae Hemphill. The program closes out with new boogie woogie piano stylings from Sunday Wilde.

Good tune Jet... her voice is absolutely mesmerizing!

It’s Father’s Day on The BluesMobile

Elwood presents blues for Father’s Day – from the fathers of the blues, as well as their offspring!

Sons of fathers, and Daddy’s daughters to celebrate Father’s Day this week: Mud Morganfield and Big Bill Morganfield are Muddy Waters’s children. Elwood will also play John Lee Hooker Junior and daughter Zakiya Hooker. Plus Johnny Copeland’s daughter, Shemekia, Otis Taylor’s daughter, Cassie, and Jonnie Taylor’s daughter, Tasha.

This week’s blues breaker is the dynamic Milwaukee soul band, Tweed Funk.
