1948 The fraternal twin brothers Chuck and John Panozzo are born in Chicago. Along with James Young, Dennis DeYoung and John Curulewski, they form the band Styx, where they are the rhythm section, Chuck on bass and John on drums.
1967 Identical twins Matthew and Gunnar Nelson (of Nelson) are born to teen idol Ricky Nelson and actress Kristin Harmon in Santa Monica, California.
1973 Jim Croce is killed in a plane crash in Natchitoches, Louisiana, at age 30.
2010 Leonard Skinner, the namesake of the band Lynyrd Skynyrd, dies of Alzheimer's disease at age 77. As a gym teacher at Robert E. Lee High School in Jacksonville, Florida, he sent Ronnie Van Zant to the principal's office because his hair was too long.
