2002 Canadian guitarist and singer Zal Yanovsky of The Lovin Spoonful died of a heart attack. Was a member of The Mugwumps with Denny Doherty and Cass Elliot. Formed Lovin Spoonful with John Sebastian in 1964, they scored the 1966 US No.1 & UK No.8 single 'Summer In The City'.

1945 Robert Martinez (original drummer for ? & the Mysterians) is born. Like the rest of his bandmates, he was born in Texas, but raised in Michigan.

1948 David "Davy" O'List (of Roxy Music, The Nice) is born in Chiswick, West London, England.

1948 "Skunk" Baxter (guitarist for The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan) is born Jeffrey Allen Baxter in Washington, D.C.

1948 Ted Nugent is born Theodore Anthony Nugent in Detroit, Michigan.

2008 Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh marries Marjorie Bach, making him brother-in-law to Ringo Starr, who is married to Marjorie's sister Barbara.

2004 The funeral took place in Arlington, Texas for Damageplan and Pantera guitarist Dimebag Darrell, Eddie Van Halen, placed Darrell’s original black and yellow stripes guitar into the KISS Kasket he was buried in. Several thousand fans and friends gathered at the Arlington Convention Center in Arlington, to mourn the guitarist’s death. Darrell was shot five times in the back of the head during a gig at the Alrosa Villa Club in Columbus on 8th Dec 04 by a mentally ill former US Marine. Damageplan's drum technician, John Brooks, and tour manager, Chris Paluska, were both injured in the incident.

1974: Styx re-released “Lady” which went on to become their first top ten hit in the U.S. peaking at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

1997: Kurt Winter, former guitarist for The Guess Who died of kidney failure. He was 51 years old.

2006: Founder of Atlantic Records Ahmet Ertegun died after slipping into a coma. He slipped & hit his head at a Rolling Stones concert weeks earlier. He was 83 years old.

Great detail Connie..it was a cryin' shame about Ahmet falling backstage...he bankrolled and let the Stones use their tongue label through him via Kinney Group.
