I really enjoy these posts Connie...even though they make me feel old..some good 1970 ones.
Anyone on here see The James Gang?..lucky you!!
My late Mom knew Alvin Lee...and especially her Mother..we knew him as Graham Barnes..but my older Brothers knew he was gonna make it big. One day in 1969..Alvin Lee's Mom was talking to us in the Laundrette that local women used( not many had washing machines then).
Anyhow she said "my Graham is going to play a huge free concert- but i have forgotten the name of the place"... this turned out to be Woodstock.

I know what you mean on feeling old. Some of it makes me feel old as dirt! :rolleyes:


I almost spit out my soda when I read it was Woodstock.:)

1968 Deep Purple, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Ten Years After, The Nice, Ginger Baker, Traffic, John Mayall, Spencer Davis, Taste, Jerry Lee Lewis and Arthur Brown all appeared at the 3 day National Jazz & Blues Festival, Kempton Park Racecourse, Sunbury On Thames, England.

1995 Jerry Garcia guitarist and singer from The Grateful Dead died from a heart attack at the Serenity Knolls rehabilitation clinic in San Francisco aged 53. Garcia co-founded the New Riders of the Purple Sage and also released several solo albums. He was well known for his distinctive guitar playing and was ranked 13th in Rolling Stone's "100 Greatest Guitarist's of All Time"

1994 Lynyrd Skynyrd releases Endangered Species, their eight album.

1980: AC/DC reached the top of the U.K. Album Chart with Back in Black which spent two weeks on top of the chart. The album peaked at number four on the Billboard 200 Album Chart in the U.S. & went on to sell 45 million copies worldwide, making it the second biggest selling album of all time.

1986: Queen performed their final concert with Freddie Mercury at the Knebworth in England in front of 120,000 people.

2008 US singer-songwriter Isaac Hayes died at his home in Memphis, Tennessee, at the age of 65. Police were called to his home after his wife found him unconscious. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. Hayes won an Oscar for the 1971 hit Theme From Shaft as was also known as the voice of Chef from the hit cartoon show, South Park. He was married four times and had 12 children.
