The Troggs are far too often thought of as one hit wonders these days on this side of the Atlantic but they actually had a career that spanned several big hit singles:

Wild Thing (1966) (UK #2, US #1)

With a Girl Like You (1966) (UK #1, US #29)

I Can't Control Myself (1966) (UK #2, US #43)

Love Is All Around (1967) (UK #5, US #7)

The lineup that produced these hits was as follows:

Reg Presley - Lead Vocals
Chris Britton - Lead Guitar
Pete Staples - Bass
Ronnie Bond - Drums

The original band split up in March 1969 but reformed later in the year with Tony Murray replacing Pete Staples on bass. This lineup stayed together until the death of drummer Ronnie Bond in 1992. Their earlier success on the single charts was never to be repeated, however.

Nonetheless, the Troggs remain one of my favourite bands. They've left quite the legacy with other music observers too. The Troggs are described as proto-punks in their biography on Barnes and Noble:

Barnes and Noble Bibliography

They released seven studio albums between 1966 and 1970.

I've not come across any good quality vinyl copies of the Troggs early albums so I may have to resort to buying a compilation CD. Sadly compromises in the pursuit of great art must occasionally be made.

Re: The Troggs!

I have a compilation CD of theirs already, it has all the songs I need. Cliche perhaps but I bought it for Wild Thing, I've always loved that song.

Re: The Troggs!

"Wild Thing" appears on so many sixties compilations albums that it's actually hard to avoid.

Re: The Troggs!

I don't have many of those,,,but I have discovered after playing my CD that the Troggs were much more than a one hit wonder.

Wild Thing still is my favorite, there is a reason for that but I'm not posting it here seeing this is a PG forum Fox.;)

Re: The Troggs!

The Troggs were actually a proto-punk band that influenced all subsequent punkers from the Stooges, to the Ramones to the Sex Pistols.

Re: The Troggs!

Their song 'Love is all Around' was covered by Wet Wet Wet for the film 4 Weddings and a Funeral in 1994 and topped the U.K. charts for 15 weeks.

Actually The Troggs are still recording and touring in the UK. Their web site is http://www.my-generation.org.uk/Troggs/
