THE STOOGES

The+Stooges+stooges.jpg

The Stooges (also known as Iggy & The Stooges) are an American rock band that were first active from 1967 to 1974, then reformed in 2003. They sold few records in their original formation and often performed for hostile audiences. The Stooges are widely considered the one of the first punk rock bands and are were very influential to alternative rock and heavy metal. Iggy Pop and his often outrageous onstage performances were frequently the main focus of attention.
They reformed in 2003, with bassist Mike Watt replacing the deceased Dave Alexander. They toured extensively and released an album consisting of new material.
On January 6, 2009, guitarist Ron Asheton was found dead from a heart attack in his Ann Arbor home. Several months later, the band announced plans to continue performing with later guitarist James Williamson replacing Asheton.

The Stooges have been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame eight times, the most recent being in 2009.

Great band. Highly influential to punk rock.
If you have never listened to them I suggest doing so now.

Re: The Stooges

Another feather in you cap buddy, but I am not a big fan of theirs. I don't know what it is but I've never got into Iggy Pop either solo or in this band.

However it is amazing to hear they are actively touring again, hell why not while you still can as Foxhound would say.:D

Re: The Stooges

I actually prefer Iggy's solo work, specifically while working with David Bowie, to his work with The Stooges, but I do enjoy them too. "Search and Destroy" is by far my favorite Stooges song but in addition to the ones you've already mention I also like "1969", "Down On The Street", and their version of "Louie Louie" to name a few.

Re: The Stooges

What a great band, Iggy has so much energy, invites all his fans on stage and runs around like a small child in a candy store, ripper.
