So what's up with Van Halen?

WHAT IS VAN HALEN UP TO NOW?: PART 303:
So I keep getting hammered with e-mails asking "what is Van Halen doing...". Not much it would seem. There is the occasional "new material is being worked on" comment comes from the band, but with no ETA and it seems a chance for the band to team up for a long rumored mega-name dual-headliner tour has evaporated for 2010.
There is no word to suggest that if and when anything new comes to pass that David Lee Roth will be the singer at the helm, but it seems Dave isn't wasting any time sitting around. I'm hearing he has been working on new solo tunes with guitarist John 5 and drummer Greg Bissonette.
Stay tuned...

I was wondering about Van Halen's plans myself. Last I heard, Eddie was just waiting until Wolfgang graduated to do anything major.

SAMMY HAGAR Amazed At VAN HALEN'S Lack Of Progress - Mar. 31, 2010
According to The Pulse of Radio, Sammy Hagar is happy with the direction that his current band CHICKENFOOT is going, but couldn't help speaking out about the lack of VAN HALEN's progress. He spoke to The San Gabriel Valley Tribune and seemed amazed that VAN HALEN hasn't released a new studio album in nearly 20 years, explaining, "The band broke up in 1995. The last record was in '93. 17 years and they haven't made any new music. That's crazy . . . if it changed and it was like it used to be when I was in the band, I could do a reunion and an album, but not under these circumstances."

Hagar recalled that back in 2004 when he and current CHICKENFOOT bandmate Michael Anthony recorded three new songs for VAN HALEN's "Best Of Both Worlds" compilation, the pace that the band was working at was far to slow for him. "We tried to make a record, but, y'know, it just was taking so long we only got three songs done, and not 'cause of me, I'll tell ya straight up," he said. "If anyone ever says anything like that I was the problem on that record, they're crazy. I had my stuff totally together. I went in, I knocked my stuff out, and then Eddie [Van Halen] would take months to do a guitar solo or something. It was just way too drawn out. I can't work like that."

I just hope that if and when VH gets it together they do bring David Lee Roth back to the band. Otherwise I see no point in doing anything at all.

As for Sammy's comments, I do agree about the lack of new material being kind of shocking considering the time interval, and I am at a loss to explain why they just stopped.:dunno:

Re: So what's up with Van Halen?

What Michael said about Eddie taking to long to do his solo stuff has me thinking Eddie with all the "Stuff' he was going through just means he has fallen out of the groove..He can't get back into the game...
Dave working on his solo makes sense because he got back out in the concert world and it probably felt good for him and he was excited to stay up there since he isn't young any more..
But it's just sad that Van Halen has disintegrated to this..
If they ever get it back together it will be a miracle..:wa:

VAN HALEN - POSSIBLE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?:
It's been a while since I reached out to one of my best sources of Van Halen info over the years, but it had to be done. And I got the information I was hoping for - independent confirmation from a long time source I trust that Van Halen are indeed working towards finishing recording of a long awaited new studio album with David Lee Roth, set for release sometime in the first half of 2011. A single is slated for release before the end of this year, but exact timing still remains very much up in the air. I'm told the relationship between Eddie and Dave remains as complex as ever, but there is a definite desire to get a new record completed.

Incidentally - I'm told that Santana will cover the Van Halen classic Dance The Night Away on his next album of tracks featuring different singers (no word on the vocalist). It was suggested to me that Eddie would apparently still like to pursue this idea one day. I'm sure you'll remember that little nugget coming to light via one of my reports nearly a decade ago now. Stay tuned as always...
