The Pogues were a band of mixed Irish and English background with a folk/punk mix of music. Shane McGowan the singer is probably better known for his drunken antics and very bad teeth than anything else.

Discography:

Red Roses for Me (1984)
Rum Sodomy & the Lash (1985)
If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988)
Peace and Love (1989)
Hell's Ditch (1990)
Waiting for Herb (1993)
Pogue Mahone (1996)

This song reminds me of a fantastic night out at an Irish dance hall in Camden Town, London a couple of years ago.

My sister is called Aisling. Shane sounds a bit under the weather singing "Aisling" :heheh:

Re: The Pogues

The Pogues are awesome. They were the first band to create "Celtic Punk" which would influence many other great celtic punk bands such as Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys.

Re: The Pogues

That's one of my favorite Christmas songs. :grinthumb

I am quite a fan of the The Pogues. They considerably predate the flagships of Celtic rock, Flogging Molly and The Dropkicks Murphys, and I enjoy much of their work more than both of those bands. :D

A fave of mine from them...

My favorite Pogues' song will always be this one:

A damning indictment of war if there ever was one.
