    The Clash!

    The Clash Official Website

    Albums:

    The Clash (1977)
    Give 'Em Enough Rope (1978)
    London Calling (1979)
    Sandinista! (1980)
    Combat Rock (1982)
    Cut the Crap (1985)

Hands down my favorite and I think most influential band to come from the Punk Rock music scene. Formed in London in 1976, the strongest line-up consisted of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simonon, and Topper Headon. I was lucky enough to see the band live in 1982, at last I can give Bucky a run for his money...:heheh:. The Clash had a reputation as "The Thinking Man's Punk Band", unlike many other of their contemporaries they weren't just railing against the system and authority randomly, but had specific causes that they strongly believed in and wrote some great songs to get their message across. That is one reason they had such a far reaching impact on the music world, and their influence is still felt today. It is ironic that at the height of their fame, at the infamous California Jam concert that they themselves had finally succumbed to the celebrity of being rock stars and the trappings of excess that went with it. The band was on it's last legs, Mick Jones wouldn't even rehearse anymore, he was all about being the most important member of the band and the strain between him and Joe Strummer had reached the breaking point.

London Calling is in my Top Ten albums of all time, I like it that much.

    The title song.

One of the best albums covers ever.

I'm a Clash novice. I only know what I have on a hits compilation. Here are some of my favorites though which are obvious I know.

    Rock The Casbah

Should I Stay Or Should I Go

    I Fought The Law

I respect how these guys have the catchiness of other punk bands like The Ramones but their lyrics were more purposeful and they incorporated other genres like Reggae into their music which made them stand out! :grinthumb

I'll agree on London Calling also! I never was a freak over the Clash but I do like most of what I have by them which is their debut S/T(which is another great one),London Calling, Combat Rock(which other than the hits, I didn't really care for it) & Live at Shea Stadium.
I really like their covers of Bobby Fuller's "I Fought the Law"(which is what got me into them) & Vince Taylor's "Brand New Cadillac".

I do like Carbon/Silicon which is a project with Mick Jones & Tony James(Generation X,Sigue Sigue Sputnik,Sisters of Mercy, & Johnny Thunders).

LG, I never seen the Clash live so you got me there!!!(I almost seen them, I think it was '82 but the show sold out.It was with the Who & David Johansen)

Finally one band I Have seen that you missed...all is good in my world now Bucky...:heheh:

They headlined their own show here, with some local punk band that was so terrible I can't remember their name, no loss.

Joe Strummer came out with a "Blazing Green Mowhawk", and the first song was "London Calling", a great way to start the show. I will post my 2nd favorite album later.

EB nice to see you like them, you taste so far is impeccable, with one or two possible exceptions...:D
