Hey Music Documentary fans. I wanted to get on here and share the film I've been working on for a decade called "That Georgia Rhythm".

That Georgia Rhythm began production in June 2015 and tells the story of Rodney Mills—an unsung hero whose work behind the console at Studio One in Doraville, Georgia helped define the sound of Southern Rock.

The film takes viewers through four decades of Atlanta’s music history, spotlighting the creative forces of Bill Lowery and Buddy Buie, whose vision brought Studio One to life.

Yes! We sat down with Gloria Buie, wife of the late Buddy Buie. Buddy was an amazing songwriter and "Spooky" is one of the best by him and J.R. Cobb.

The actual melody line was written by
Mike Shapiro (performing as saxophonist Mike Sharpe) and Harry Middlebrooks Jr. as an instrumental, with later vocal lyrics added by James Cobb and Buddy Buie for the Classics IV version.

ARS played the kind of music that you could listen to anytime of the day or night, and year round. Usually mellow, always sweet and soothing. Without a doubt, my favourite Southern Rock band.

They always reminded me of 'Steely Dan meets Manassas/ Eagles'.
Solid players but a bit too radio friendly for me at times.
My favorite 'southern rock' band has to be Allman Brothers Band ...imho no one came close to their atmosphere , live playing, and songwriting.

I've seen nearly every one of the rock bands that fell into the 'Southern Rock' genre. I'd say that the ABB was a bit more moody in concert that the others. But every one of these bands had top tier talent in their lineups. The Outlaws and the Atlanta Rhythm Section will always be my two favourites in the genre, then Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special, Molly Hatchet, and the Marshall Tucker Band. For reasons of personal taste, I would place the Allman Brothers, Blackfoot, Black Oak Arkansas towards the bottom. I was never a fan of Wet Willie, Grinderswitch, and a few others that considered themselves part of this genre.
Last of all, I will add that Gregg Allman is without a doubt one of the top 10 male rock vocalists ever, and the best in this genre.

IMHO this one live track beats anything live or studio any of the other bands ever did in the so called southern rock genre.
Duane Allman was a better player than anyone in all the other bands and then we also have Dicky Betts too....that says it all.
btw various internet searches will usually list Allman Bros and Lynyrd Skynyrd as the two best in that genre,,,,
But as always its subjective.......
