I thought Maiden did a good job on this album, although many hard core fans didn't take to it when it came out...about 6.75 on this one so I'll give it a "Great" rating.

Classic :grinthumb

Two great Maiden cuts came off here...Deja Vu and Heaven Can Wait....

Also we have Caught Somewhere In Time, Alexander The Great (EPIC), the giant hit Wasted Years...and the the other epic, The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner...

Man...a Ten on my end. :grinthumb

Maiden took somewhat of a different direction on this album which IMO sounds like the band somewhat slightly trending to "mainstream" metal of that time. Average.

^^It's funny Maiden got much less grief for this album than Priest did for a similar recording "Turbo" EF, but I still think it's a good album.

All Maiden albums from the 80s are Classic for me .

LG I can't compare the disco metal from Turbo with the epic grandeur of Somewhere In Time :D. For me these two albums are not in the same league.

^^:heheh: that was very well put Bob, I was just drawing a comparison from both bands that did attempt to change their sound a little bit on those two albums, like so many other bands were doing back then. I actually don't mind Turbo, I like bands experimenting with different things, sometimes it is an epic failure and other times it is a stunning achievement.

I don't see this album as "commercial" or "mainstream" at all.
Sure it's a bit different then their earlier material but far from mainstream,IMO.
