For anyone who doesn't know the difference, there is definitely a big difference between most of the music that the Scorpions put out in the 70's with what they put out in the 80's. For a good thread that focuses on the first 5 or 6 albums, please check out MetalPriest's thread - Scorpions - 70's Edition.

I'd like to start off by saying this isn't exclusively 80's, but the main part of this thread will be focusing around the lineup that the band carried through the 80's and beyond. The 80's would definitely be considered the band's most commercially successful period. In 1978, guitarist Uli Jon Roth left the band while on the Taken By Force tour and was replaced by Matthias Jabs. Once Jabs joined the lineup, the lineup would pretty much stay intact from that point all the way through the 80's....
Vocals: Klaus Meine
Guitar: Matthias Jabs
Guitar: Rudolph Schenker
Bass: Francis Buchholz
Drums: Herman Rarebell

The first album with the new lineup was 1979's Lovedrive. Original cover considered in some parts of the world to be too controversial and was banned in some countries. This was nothing new to the Scorps who had a number of previous album covers with similar issues.

(alternate cover):

There was a 'special guest' guitar player on this album as well. Rudolf Schenker's little brother Michael Schenker (noteable member of UFO and MSG), who had played with the band on their first two albums, played lead guitar on a couple of tracks on Lovedrive including the title track, Coast to Coast and Another Piece of Meat.
Track Listing:
- Loving You Sunday Morning – 5:36
- Another Piece of Meat – 3:30
- Always Somewhere – 4:56
- Coast to Coast – 4:42
- Can't Get Enough – 2:36
- Is There Anybody There? – 3:58
- Lovedrive – 4:49
- Holiday – 6:32
