Honestly, I think eccentric man's basic arguments are on target here. He and I can be pretty far apart on a lot of issues, but here I agree with him. At least in American society, it appears that sex has become an end in itself, and most have forgotten that it is, biologically, a means to an end...that being the bringing of a child into the world.

As Paul Simon once wrote: "Why deny the obvious, child?"

my kids are recieving an "abstinence only education" and learning that having babies is the sole and only purpose of sex. you should see the material they bring home! it's postively red chinese!

any screwed up attitude they end up getting about sex won't come from not knowing what it's for.

thanks RR, that's pretty much it.

i'm not saying it should be a forced black and white issue for everyone but if someone is going to parade themselves as some sort of planetary paragons that fly in the face of the abhorrence of man then i think they should go all the way in their derision of themselves.

as for the kids being 'educated' with abstinence only crap. it falls onto the parent to educate their children about the difference between fucking and making love. between pornography and intimacy. i never said making babies was the only purpose of sex only that it was its most fundamental.

it's like neither side wants to work together. the so called religious right basically wants it to be sterile, hence the miseducation. while the free thinking left wants to enjoy the behaviour while ignoring the responsibilities until they deem them worthy, hence the push for a more relaxed view on abortion. i really can't see why they don't just mix both sides for the education. while i don't agree with the forced abstinence angle i don't think it's wrong to make sex seem like something that has a high cost of responsibility, considering it is after all the only reason we're still here.

don't agree. you can't make your christian soldiers go onward if you run out of soldiers. those 'dominion' and 'christian reconstructionist' types need a fresh supply of able bodied god-ka-teers.

Sorry Martha, but I can't really find any problems with eccentric man's logic on this one. He's not saying we can't have fun with sex (heck, my wife and I have had lots of fun with it over our almost 30 years of marriage--that was too much information, but I'm making a point). He's saying that it is also the very thing that brings children into the world, so we must be responsible about it. I just see no problem with that whatsoever.
