The men in white coats at Rolling Stone have just posted their list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. It is as bizarre as the rest of their lists and, as usual, spread over countless web pages. This is as far as I got:

"The men in white coats"? Cute.

Except the list was created by other guitar players, not critics.

If anyone really gets a hard rap in the music industry, it's the journalists. I don't understand why people seem to hate rock writers so much.

Also, I could have sworn RS already did one of these. I remember because they had put Kurt Cobain somewhere in the teens and people were pretty annoyed by that, but like DC said this list may be created by a different group.

They definitely did a best guitarist issue (maybe top 50) 1 or 2 years ago.

1 or 2 years ago.

That's the issue. Each one happens way too close to the last one. That's my opinion anyway. They need to space it out, and potentially look deeper into it and keep up with current talent instead of constantly speaking about the same god damn guitarist every single time. I'm quite frankly really tired of hearing about Cobain at this point. And Jack White, and Hetfield, etc.

Looks like a well-rounded list so far. You get classic rock obligatories like Peter Green, Mike Bloomfield, Rory Gallagher, alt heroes like Johnny Marr, Johnny Greenwood, J Mascis, the often forgotten like Mike Cambell, Robby Krieger, and the early masters like Link Wray, Hubert Sumlin, Carl Perkins. The only thing that doesn't make sense are the random big names like Lennon and Springsteen. Not sure I've ever seen someone praise them for guitar before....

Was thinking the same about Lennon AAG, and I've also never seen Springsteen praised for his guitar skills. He's a great showman though I'll give him that. I'm just glad they included Rory at all! If I recall correctly the last list didn't even include Slash.
