Hmmmmm

Dear Gene,

I was at a record shop the other day and found this very rare KISS related album. It's the infamous Rick James 1982 Throwin' Down album which has one of your axe basses on the front cover. My question is can you tell me how Rick James got your famous axe for the cover of the 1982 Throwin' Down album.

Thanks,

Response from Gene:

James simply went out and bought one. The original GENE SIMMONS AXE was put out by KRAMER GUITARS. A limited number were manufactured. James attended a KISS show in 1979. He sat in the third row, center. I saw him. He then went on to release another album called (!!!) LOVE GUN. And, he wore Paul's star pants as well.

Imitation is the best form of flattery.

I see this thread is Full of info about Rick James I never knew, but I don't have any of his albums so that's no surprise. I was shocked when he passed away a few months ago, he was still relatively young.

Anyone ever made the connection that Rick James's singing voice sounds similar to Stevie Wonder. Rick James one of the few bass playing frontmen to really have his bass playing stand out so much kind of like claypool.
