Don't know if any of you are familar with the singer Rhiannon Giddens? Oh yeah, she also plays violin, banjo, fiddle, kazoo, snare drum, bones, jug, harmonica, and studied opera at Oberlin Conservatory! She is mainly known from the bluegrass band Carolina Chocolate Drops and recently outshined everyone on "Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes" by The New Basement Tapes (an album consiststing of a series of tracks based on recently uncovered lyrics handwritten by Bob Dylan).

She has a new solo album out, consisting of mainly covers (Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline and more), some traditional songs and one of her own songs. Her voice is powerful and versatile. Musically, roots music just about covers it.

I COMPLETELY agree with you! I'd never listened to The Caroline Chocolate Drops but caught her debut and liked it a lot. I bought The Basement Tapes afterward and she as you said is the main highlight of that album! :grinthumb
