Associated Acts Anthrax

Overkill is heavy metal band from New Jersey that formed in 1980. Along with Anthrax (whose one-time lead guitarist, Dan Spitz, was also an early member of Overkill), are one of the most successful East Coast thrash metal bands.
They are considered pioneers of thrash metal.

I was fortunate enough to meet their original drummer/ co-founder through my cousin and have dinner with him. We talked about heavy metal for hours and also punk rock.

So even though Overkill is not my favorite band in the thrash genre. They do hold a special place in my heart because of that moment.

Great band and IMO very underrated. Blitz is probably my favorite thrash metal vocalist because he just sounds damn evil especially when he laughs.

Re: Overkill

OVERKILL : One of my all time favorite bands Thrash Metal or otherwise. Metallica is usually given sole credit
for stating the Thrash movement. However Overkill is one of the handful of bands who deserve some recognition for helping to define the full frontal assaultive nature of the new abrasive metal form. Some people say they can't stand Blitz vocals but that is one of the things that I love about this band.
Just straight up wicked in yer face demonic \m/

Overkill (USA) - Power in Black
The first Overkill demo..Recorded March-Sept, 1983. "at two shitholes, Staten Island NY and Sterling NJ".

One of the first Thrash Demos ever recorded that helped to start it all

album-feel-the-fire.jpg

I remember when my friend Shawn came across the first official OVERKILL release Feel The Fire ( on vinyl of course )
Thrash had just reared it's ugly head and my friends and I were trying to figure out what to make of it .haha ... We were a bit confused TBH but still strangely intrigued. We kept spinning it in his bedroom one day and after the first two spins he looked at me and said "Do you like this stuff ?" I looked back at him and said " I'm not sure .....spin it again" lol

Needless to say by the end of the day we were in full Thrash Metal mosh pit mod \m/

One of favs ...

Years of Decay is definitely in my top ten too. It's sooo good. Horrorscope is also a beast of an album:

Just checked out a few tracks from Ironbound, and I was impressed! They can still kick major ass!!! Def added to my wishlist~~

Edit - Dead video links removed as they were no longer on Youtube - Riff Raff.

Re: Overkill

I agree that they are a very underrated band and actually like them much more than Slayer and Megadeth.
