If I have to pick a favorite...."I Never Cry"

Harmony, you're killing me here.

But I suppose this thread had to happen one day and I hope many members will go into a bit of detail behind their choice as I would be interested in knowing why. These are 4 of the best and most classic Alice ballads, all disturbing (in a good way) in their own right.

To me Only Women Bleed was too easy for me...as it's just a stand out tune from all of these and a constant staple in his set list year after year.

You and Me and I Never Cry are both great songs and go well with the story and albums that they come from. I love the way I Never Cry was utilized for the last tour.....just before Alice's hanging.

But I'm voting for How You Gonna See Me Now ....yup....this is ONE fabulous track, IMO...not only can one take this song as a stand alone love song about missing one's lover...or a reconciliation....but in context with the story it's really about getting out of the nut house.

Wondering what his wife is gonna think of him...in the same crazy ugly manner or a cured (maybe) psychopath. Disturbing, beautiful, nervous, touching and tense all in one sitting.

Funny thing is, when I was a kid...my Mom used to love her fair share of 70's music. From Maureen McGovern to Captain & Tennille....hearing music through my door and what was on the radio alot at that time...she also became a fan and loved all 4 of these SHOCKTASTIC Alice ballads.

And my mom was a fan of "I Never Cry" too. She even picked up a copy of "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell" and upon listening to it from the opening track was like "Wait a minute..."

I also went w/ How You Gonna See Me Now. I really was into the whole concept of From the Inside & back in the 70's when it came out it was such huge news (I'm surprised the song didn't stay on the charts long though it did reach #12). The whole concept of Alice checking into a rehab facility was making headlines in all the magazines plus he came out with a Marvel Comic Book to coincide with the album's release. He did a whole set around the album on the Midnight Special & even had a concert special on Showtime promoting the album. The promotional video for How You Gonna See Me Now appeared on Don Kirshner & it was a great video which explained the whole album concept & then at the end of the video as the song was ending Alice arrives home from his rehab stint only to see his wife being stretchered away wearing his make - up

By the way, I have the single on vinyl (b. "Raped and Freezin'"). So if you ever get your musical shit together, my dear, and get yourself something to play vinyl with, you wannit?

Only Women Bleed. Not only can I identify with this song but it speaks for so many women locked into an abusive relationship. Gosh almost forgot to mention the song is just strikingly sad in a beautiful way.
