Proto - Metal :
As I would definite it would be bands that were not metal themselves per say, but very instrumental in helping to influence the future shape of the genre .I know that bands such as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath , Uriah Heep, etc. are debatable as to whether they actually were METAL bands or proto metal ( especially Sabbath who is generally considered metal by most .) so I will try to stick to the more unsung bands of the era who exhibited these same qualities.

Re: Proto - Metal

Great topic. You've listed three great examples. Night Sun just "smokes".

The power trio Dust.

Re: Proto - Metal

Great thread, always trying to find these kind of bands.

Here's Jeronimo - News. Album is called Cosmic Blues from 1970.

Re: Proto - Metal

Great contributions, guys !

All three are bands I had planned on adding later :grinthumb

But here is the weird part...
I swear I was listening to Groundhogs earlier
and I spun Jeronimo's self titled vinyl in my room just before coming out
here to computer and reading this..................
I am now convinced that this thread was preordained by the Rock Godz themselves \m/

:lmao:

more to come

LOU, The Mighty Groundhogs! Thank Christ for the Bomb is my fav. For this thread I would use an example from Split(which you did) or from Hogwash.

Re: Proto - Metal

Here's a given.

May Blitz was formed by Tony Newman who drummed with the Jeff Group on Beck-Ola and two fellow Canadians who moved to London. The self-titled debut was released in 1970 and six months later The 2nd of May was issued. Tony Newman later went on to the Three Man Army.
