Ace in the Hole
Every year (or whenever I think about it), I'm looking up this song "Blue Moon" by Billy Eckstein, and every year I get a bunch of videos of his hit version done sometime between 1948-51.
However, it's not the version I used to hear on the radio, though the radio station was confident they were playing Billy Eckstein, and from what I recall the person singing in the early and later version I heard on the radio, I would agree it sounds like Billy.
The one on the radio was also orchestrated though also accompanying Billy were some female backing vocalists, which aren't a feature on the earlier song.
What's the Dilemma?
No version of Blue Moon with Billy Eckstein accompanying by Female vocalists is present online anywhere. The most likely explanation I think is it comes from an album called "The Golden Hits of Billy Eckstein", it sounds like a Best of album, however I looked up the album on Wikipedia and all the tracks (including Blue Moon), were new performances recorded for that album and produced by legend Quincy Jones. However, when I try to find this album online I get shifted to a site literally offering a Best Of style album! Some of the other sites only seem to be offering a vinyl copy of "The Golden Hits of Billy Eckstein", unfortunately I'm only collecting digital albums these days.
